Liberal Minority Government 2021 - ????

@Remius Lets see. We will find out very soon here this nation stands.
For sure. I still stand by my current prediction that the best the LPC can get at this time would be holding the CPC to a minority. But it may now be even a weak minority the way things are going.

minorities might be our thing now. But a CPC minority might still be a Liberal government. Can the CPC swing the BQ?

Today Carney, in a speech with Macron, said Canada was the most European of non European countries.

Some would say, according to convention, he is doing things he has no business doing.

He is ignoring the spirit of the long standing, albeit voluntary Caretaker Convention. A convention that has always been adhered to as a matter of course and honour by all parties concerned.

Some would say that, sure, but they’re making a stretch not supported by any actual custom or convention.

The caretaker convention applies when the writ of election has dropped. The Privy Council guide he quotes is here: Guidelines on the conduct of Ministers, Ministers of State, exempt staff and public servants during an election - Canada.ca

As we can see from actually looking at it, the guide itself specifically situates itself in the context of the dissolution of Parliament and an election having been called. It’s noteworthy that Hopper quotes it in part but doesn’t provide a link for people to assess it themselves.

There is no convention standing in the way of what the government is currently doing. As soon as the writ drops, then it will apply. While ‘it could be argued’ that the convention should be extended in a new and novel way, that would be nothing more than a statement of opinion. Carney is ignoring the Caretaker convention in the same way that I, when driving home from work in Ontario, ignore the speed limit in Manitoba. It’s a simple matter of it doesn’t apply to the circumstances.

Which is why all of these 'gentleman's agreements' need to be revisited, revised and made law. We are no longer an honourable society expecting people to do what is right. Not on the Hill at least.

I think this is what you're looking for Guidelines on the conduct of Ministers, Ministers of State, exempt staff and public servants during an election - Canada.ca

OK. Time for some humour. I am on FB (no surprise) and babble on alot of political groups, sites, etc.

So I need to quote some doozy quotes from people that I am disturbed have voting rights. No names, no need to publicly shame people

"We need to vote Carney for PM in this next coming election. If he lets us down, then we will all get together and vote him out on a non-confidence vote like we did to Justin...." (Her fellow Liberals handed her ass on that one)

"I don't understand why Doug Ford, the conservative leader won the election but Pierre Poilievre is still saying he is the leader..." (Oh shit buds, go back to grade 3, thats a strike against my side)

"Why didn't Jagmeet take over as the Prime Minister when Justin stepped down? Wasn't he the deputy to Trudeau..." (Whoa boy, watch the news at least once a year)

"We need Poilievre in as PM, so we can sell american booze again.." (Ohhh crap, another one from our side)

"Jagmeet is a terrible leader for our party, we haven't had a good leader since Paul Martin was our leader and PM..." (Ohhh crap, stupidity comes from all sides)

"PPC is going to get at least 3 or 4 seats this time..." (I need a paper bag to slow down my hysterical laughter)

"The carbon tax was a made up conspiracy theory by the cons to discredit Prime Minister Trudeau and sadly the lies worked..." (Another Liberal got owned by her own side)

"PP can't run for Prime Minister until he gets his security clearance..." (oooh dear)

Angus Reid also puts the LPC up 5% over CPC. This is another new entrant showing the same trend (338 doesn’t have an Angus Reid poll as per of their composite projection since I think December).

AR tends to be more right leaning, so to see them put the liberals in majority territory has to be a warning shot for Pierre. He may not want a spring election now

I’d be curious to see there internal polling right now…
