Just heard this tidbit here (about 20 minutes in) re: one of the clips that doesn't seem to have made it out into MSM because it was on the subscriber-only "extras reel" of the Peterson interview with PP -- this on how he'd deal with the U.S.:
"What I would say to President Trump is that the gains that Canada gets from increased access to the United States, I would spend largely on our continental defence. Let's take out a map of our shared continent. 'Where do you believe we need to do more to protect our shared securityacross that map?' ... The northern border, and then the arctic, then let's come up with a plan to do that and we'll do our part ... (border security and military issues) that's what they're really concerned about. So it goes from zero sum to a positive for both countries, and I think that's a deal that President Trump would take because it's good for America and it's good for Canada, so it's a deal that I would push."
Just sharing to see the different takes folks'll take on the text itself.

He wants us to buy the stuff he sells. And the stuff he has to sell these days is defence industry stuff.
He has no other stuff to sell. Except cars. But we already build his cars.
The only other thing he has to sell is licences to manufacture American Goods in Canada. Kind of a tariff by another name?
I remain convinced that his big play is on Defence. He wants to unload the burden on the US economy and transfer it to his "allies".

My big question is - are his defense offerings sufficiently current to demand the premium he needs to bring in a useful revenue stream?

That's probably Trumps plan all along, create (more) in-fighting within provinces to the point of western separation from confederation.

I have started to seriously wonder about our political leadership of all stripes and their grasp of what's actually going on.
Its beginning to look as if the country is under threat and by of all people our closest friends and neighbors.
But the collective political leadership of the country seem more convinced then ever that the solution is to basically fling poo at each other.

Not much to do. We are at the whim of the US and have been for a long long long time. We could have expedited some oil and NG pipelines that would have offered some alternative but we did not. Not under Trudeau or Harper or Chretien or Mulroney. We could try and cut a deal with China perhaps play one great power off another
This is definitely where a unified “team Canada” approach is called for. Seeing Smith go down there to kowtow and basically be rebuffed is going to be a sobering realization for some. Alberta is very vulnerable to US tariffs given our oil exports, and their sensitivity to price changes given the relatively higher cost of extraction.
Canada needs to be prepared for the tariff situation to escalate into a trade war for a few years. It’s gonna suck if it happens; we need to make it suck for the other team too. Try to make it not worth it.

The LPC made a grievous error when they selected La Petit Pomme de Terre as their leader.
If my translation of "Little Potato" is incorrect please someone tell me the correct translation.
It is incorrect because the expression itself doesn’t translate well. Pomme de Terre is féminin so your adjective needs to match. La petite pomme de terre.

They did indeed. I don't think the old LPC ever intended the country to take the turn it did under La petite pomme de terre. Now, the CCP is probably quite pleased. And more so of the divide widening between Canada and the USA. All part of the plan.
