NDP support seems to have rapidly melted away though.
But has it briefly dipped below what’s generally their reliable hard floor? Is there a likelihood of at least some support shifting back? Even one or two percent will matter in some ridings.

He spoke out against Trump the same week as Doug Ford, weeks before Trudeau addressed it.
A little. Which is why I said mostly. He needs to be loud and visible on this; nobody should be left wondering where he stands on Canada vs Trump’s predatory and abusive attack on our economy and designs on our sovereignty. Anything less than “no, never, and kick rocks” is, IMO, giving up ground to team red. He has not been loud or particularly visible on it though, perhaps for fear of pissing off some of his base. They probably have internal polling guiding them on this.

How do you know undecided Canadians won't agree with Smith and decide to vote Conservative? I'd imagine someone willing to be persuaded by her is already leaning right.

Smith is just a boogeyman. People who don't like Smith discount everything she says as nonsense unless what she's saying is beneficial to their views, then Smith is all of a sudden credible.
It's a big enough issue Pierre is having a news conference this morning to address it

He's been holding Canada First rallies for the past month, with another one happening today at 6 in North York.

Sure, but show me specifically what he has said about Trump. It’s not a lot. If both sides are setting up precautions against elephants, but one is cautious not to say much at all about why while the other points to the elephant in the room and said “we need to be careful because of this elephant”, there’s a bit of an edge to the side that doesn’t shy away from talking about the elephant.

Remember that we’re talking electoral politics here. Canadians are looking for leadership and reassurance in the context of a major economic threat- and a part of reassurance comes from clearly acknowledging the problem, or in the electoral context, what is broadly perceived to be the problem (that’s Trump).

It’s been a quiet two weeks in the tariff front, but don’t forget that April 2nd is the target date for both the global reciprocal tariffs, and the end of the delay to tariffs for good and services negotiated under CUSMA. That could be a double whammy for us. Trump has not signalled an intent to back away from that. This means the election campaign could happen against a backdrop of auto plants shutting down, small businesses closing… It’s not just about today as a point in time, but the next 37 days, and who will be more seen as rising to the occasion.

This election is absolutely up in the air, votes are up for grabs between the borders of NDP-LPC, LPC-CPC, CPC-PPC (though it kills me to concede any relevance to the PPC), and multilaterally in Quebec with the Bloc in play. I think this could go right down to the wire, it could be very close, and I’ll be astonished if there’s a majority government of either colour. How each of the contenders directly and specifically addresses the Trump problem matters.

I could also be completely wrong, because apparently wacky shit just happens these days and there isn’t really a playbook for what’a going on right now.

For the last couple of week the Liberals have been putting out ads trying to equate PP with Trump. If PP doesn't come out loud and clear in his denunciations of Trump and his shenanigans I think those ads might stick to him and the CPC.

Carney’s speaking outside of Rideau Hall now. He’s pledged a 1% reduction in the lowest federal tax bracket. He’s speaking about affordability, and very specifically said that his generation came up with the bargain that if you put the work in, you get to afford a home and send your kids to school; the generations who’ve come up behind now don’t have that confidence. That’s gonna be powerful with younger voters.

Questions now, I’ll try to update:

Why now, why not govern longer so Canadians can see what he’s got?
- Done a lot in nine days, protecting workers, retaliatory tariff revenue to protect workers. Poilievre would just use it for a tax cut (the shots start). Canadians want a single Canadian economy, we’ve brought premiers together and have a consensus. Federal commitment to remove these barriers by Canada Day. Highlights again a lot in nine days. But it’s important government has a mandate from Canadians to diversify trade and partners, and to stand up to Trump.
