AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

I know it's a PR video but anyone opening any video with "22,000 tons of wave crushing steel" has never been at sea in a storm.

22,000 tons ain't much against mother nature.
The video is intended to impress civies, not sailors.

The thing I noticed was the colour difference between the RCDs in the background and the PRO. The PRO seems to be much more like a USN grey, while the RCDs seem to be rendered in our grey.

It’s great to see critical capability finally nearing delivery to the RCN after so many years. It looks like PM Trudeau will be attending the launch ceremony. Hopefully that draws some media attention to the RCN’s good news.

Ugh that mast design. I tried guys, I really did. But what can one Jr Lt(N) do against such reckless hate (of radomes).
What is that anglerfish fishing rod spar that curves over the Sea Giraffe radar?

We called it the hockey stick, Scorpion tail or "hangman". Hockey stick was funnier so we kept using that one.

It's a structure designed to hold a sensitive antenna above the radar. The antenna detects radars itself so it would be blinded by our own if it wasn't in that position.

In my defence of that design, masts are one of the most challenging things to get right on a warship. Every sensor and transmitter wants a place on the real-estate.

Underway, you might have added: "that is free of interference from all the other ones, and where it won't itself interfere with the others."
The very definition if electromagnetic compatibility is that "everyone who needs to use the spectrum may do so without causing or suffering harmful interference," and yes, ships' masts (along with aircraft) are amongst the most difficult EMC environments to plan and manage.

It can get tricky on land, too. When you decide you need to stick 4 radios inside one smallish vehicle you're asking for trouble.

Should have, being immersed in that world day to day I forgot to mention what I take for granted. Thanks for adding that!

Hope not. Just another photo op and a mouthful of word salad including how the government is meeting it military agreements.

Then off to the Fairmount Pacific Rim and maybe some surfing.
The press briefing that I read doesn't list the current Min DoD as attending. Any known reasons why not? You'd think that he'd have cleared his plate for something as important as this. Unless he's down in DC kissing the ring for us.
