Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

That's fair. I'm basing my assumption of her Fergus/Johnston level of impartialness on what appears to be her (imo) really enjoying the wining dining and travel aspect of her job.

Her role and expenditures don't seem like a big hit with many Canadians, and a newly elected Pierre Poilievre may want to start off his "Common Sense" rule with some low hanging fruit.

Expenditures on food and what not do not equate to the partisan antics of Fergus. A bit of a false equivalency I would say.

what would be the constitutional impetus to dissolve parliament? And remember the precedent set on prorogation set in 2008 that was used to avoid a confidence motion. I suspect it will be used this time.

She wonā€™t be making her decisions in a vacuum

I'm sure she will be super impartial on the matter šŸ„©
She will. Poillievreā€™s letter is calling on her to do something itā€™s not her place to unilaterally do. The constitutional conventions around the role and accepted use of powers by the GG are very well established. And he knows that. But most of his supporters either donā€™t know or donā€™t care. Theatrics again.

So Singh is pension eligible on Feb 25, 2025. What about the rest of his MPs? Will they vote with him to bring down the government early and forfeit their pensions?

Does the GG get any different meals than the PM or whoever is flying on 412 or 437 Sqn aircraft?

My point being that if Poilievre wants to cut costs, is he willing to cut his own meals as well?

Can 412 and 437sqn members order $1500 beef wellington meals on a flight?

I agree PP should be willing to cut his the governments ability to pay for a single meal that would feed an average Canadian for over a month.

Probably not, but thatā€™s not the comparison I was making.

My comparison was the passengers (e.g. the PM), not the crew.

I would love to see the PM eat an IMP, sans heater bc not allowed on aircraft.

Agree in general, but he may find it hard to entertain other fellow leaders while at summits in big, expensive cities, but I'm sure the others will appreciate being taken to the local McDonald's or chip wagon :) And we'll see how often PP is willing to fly commercial if/when he becomes PM, since others elsewhere on the threads have pointed this out.

It's like fixing up older official residences - nobody wants to do it because anybody on the other side'll say "hey, lookit all the crazy money they're spending on their own houses when so many Canadians can't afford their own."

Almost like thereā€™s a cost to do business.

There is a difference between being frugal and being cheap.

Canadians often can't tell the difference.

Now that is just being dumb. Nobody expects travelling dignitaries to eat cold IMPs on a flight. And nobody thinks $1500 Beef Wellington is a reasonable expenditure of public money for a mid flight meal. I think we can get to a common sense answer here.

And that includes how many times the PM gets to take public expense paid personal travel for holidays.
