Liberal Minority Government 2021 - ????

And now this ....
Singh won’t do shit.

Or a venn diagram covering all three?

Meanwhile, this from CTV ....

News embargo on the economic statement til 4. Supposedly a full LPC raucous caucus meeting at 5. Undoubtedly it’ll leak like a sieve. Wonder who’s next to pull pin?

Since nobody's reading it, it seems, here it is to read ....

Since nobody's reading it, it seems, here it is to read ....
Fuck that's bleak...

$60B deficit is going to hurt for a long time....

Since nobody's reading it, it seems, here it is to read ....
$13b attributed to booking in advance an anticipated one-time expense to settle some sort of indigenous rights related legal action. I’d be curious to know more about that.

Consumer driven banking... during the inevitable recession... when consumers have no money...

Yep, that'll work!

And here's how to keep the unwashed masses of caucus on their leash ....
Highlights from the piece:
... Here’s who’s in, and who is being handed new responsibilities.

Ontario MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith** becomes Canada’s next housing, infrastructure and communities minister, taking over for Sean Fraser, who announced on Monday that he wouldn’t be running again.

And, taking over the public safety portfolio from Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc – who took on the top economic post on Monday after Chrystia Freeland’s stunning resignation – is Ontario MP and current chair of the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP) David McGuinty.

The other Liberal MPs who have joined cabinet are:

- Quebec MP Rachel Bendayan, becoming Canada’s official languages minister and associate minister of public safety.

- Quebec MP Élisabeth Brière, becoming the minister of national revenue, taking over for Marie-Claude Bibeau who isn’t running again.

- Manitoba MP Terry Duguid, who becomes minister of sport and the minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada.

- Nova Scotia MP Darren Fisher, who is Canada’s new minister of veterans affairs and associate defence minister.

- Newfoundland and Labrador MP Joanne Thompson, taking on the minister of seniors title, which was a role handed off, after Seamus O’Regan left cabinet, and

- Ontario MP and outgoing whip Ruby Sahota who picks up the democratic institutions portfolio and becomes the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, a role outgoing minister Filomena Tassi held.

The current cabinet ministers moving into new, or amended positions are:

- Anita Anand, who had been doing double duty as Treasury Board president and transport minister, is now the minister of transport and internal trade.

- Gary Anandasangaree, who maintains his role as minister of Crown-Indigenous relations, picks up the northern affairs and Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency positions from Dan Vandal who isn’t running again.

- Steven MacKinnon, who keeps his job as labour minister but is also taking on the employment, workforce development and official languages role from Randy Boissonnault, who left cabinet last month to focus on clearing the allegations against him.

- And, Ginette Petitpas Taylor becomes Canada’s next Treasury Board president ...

That’s an interesting possibility. 11 members on the committee. 5 LPC, 4 CPC, 1 NDP, 1 BQ. It should be a no-brainer for the opposition committee members to vote that way in order to put the matter on the table potentially very early. It could also force Singh to telegraph how serious he is.

The link now goes to comments by Jack Butt. His opinion is that Trudeau won't run again and the party should hold a proper convention rather than either crowning one of the current crowd or selecting an interim leader. But who would volunteer to become the Kim Campbell of the liberal party?

The Committee -> House -> Confidence vote approach also would not defeat a prorogue.

True, but both usually-ruling parties always seem to have a "Committee Shenanigans for Dummies" book on their shelves to help get around pesky things like this, so we'll see if Team Red can pull anything either before it gets to the committee or during any meeting/committee vote. Fingers crossed, though ...
It could also force Singh to telegraph how serious he is.
For sure.

Meanwhile, love him or hate him, Gerald Butts says ....
... With respect to the fallout from the Trudeau-Freeland political breakup, those consequences are clear: Mr. Trudeau was unlikely to lead the Liberal Party into the next election and is now much less likely to do so. That election will probably come sooner rather than later, and the odds of it producing a Conservative majority government are materially greater than they were before the events of 16 December ...
... in a Substack column here (also says full leadership convention needed, not just "let the caucus pick"):

Commitee Chairman is CPC, the tie breaker, if, and probably the NDP votes with the LPC. Singh wants to be the hero to bring down Trudeau and probably will not vote for any non-confidence motion but his own.

but if the house has voted to accept the committee's non confidence then it wouldnt be prorogued?
I guess it would depend on whether the house voting to adopt that report was considered a confidence matter? I dunno, this is really into the weeds of procedure. I’m a nerd, but not that kind of nerd. I just, like everyone, want this done with an in to an election. I still have some skepticism that Singh is 100% committed, but we’ll see how the hand is played.

Buddy of mine mentioned there were attack ads airing during the world Juniors the other nigh- LPC specifically going after Poillievre, but no mention of PMJT.

i dont see how it couldnt be? Although I guess it depends on the wording but what would be the point if the opposition didnt nail down the wording? Seems an unlikely series of events that should also be unnecessary.
