Liberal Minority Government 2021 - ????

Yup!
Crazy. Almost like it’s what I’ve been saying the whole time. The NDP are policy driven, and they know they won’t advance their policy at all under a CPC majority. Why would they collapse their best chance to achieve at least a portion of the things they want for another yeah?

Singh was a criminal defense lawyer. He knows all about making the best play with the hand you’re dealt, and making a deal while you can even if you’re unavoidably going to eat some shit in the end.

Anyone who hasn’t expected this hasn’t thought objectively about what’s in the NDP’s best interest.

Is it in the NDP's best interests, or in their best short-term interests? It's obvious that the longer the LPC stay in power, the longer the NDP can force concessions, but what is the long term cost of that choice?

Being too closely tied to the LPC could easily see the NDP collapse entirely, particularly if members/voters think that voting NDP just means LPC in orange. Why not just vote for the real thing, and have a say in the actual policies and leadership of the party that holds the actual power?

Nah, too much happens over the span of four or eight years. Better a bird in the hand than two in the bush; they’re about to be out in the cold for a government or two, and most of the current NDP caucus probably won’t be around to see their next opportunity to meaningfully impact legislation.
