A interesting thought about the protests
Given that it’s largely on university campuses, it’ll depend on the wishes of the school administrations to have assistance removing people from private property. I suspect that as a first step we’ll see school administrations seek injunctions to order the protesters to decamp. Schools will be reluctant to push things to the point of public order police clearing out encampments, but it may come to that in the face of threats to fundraising and endowments. I think McGill will be the bellwether as both the ‘farthest among’ protest, and also as a school serving a city with a sizeable and historic Jewish population, many of whom will have gone through the university and may now be applying political pressure.

Saw a small snippet on CNN last night with Kevin O'Leary being interviewed. He discussed the use of AI face recognition technology in these (probably any type) of protest. It's going to be really hard for these people to get hired by large, high-paying corporations, especially if they're Jewish owned, if your face is flagged in the databases. You can protest all you want and be part of this illegal trespassing, but there are consequences.

I'm all for these kinds of things. For example, in the case of the convoy you get to see who supports personal freedoms and who doesn't, and in the case of these protests you get to see who supports terror and who doesn't.

McGill did not try, and there was no warrant involved. Two individual students tried to get an injunction prohibiting the protesters from occupying areas within x distance any McGill buildings. Basically the two applicants went way outside anything they could justify asking for as private citizens.
If McGill itself were to ask for an injunction order the protestors to decamp from McGill property it would likely be quickly granted. For comparison, see the injunctions issued by the court in B.C. against protesters blocking logging roads at Fairy Creek.

The main reason the injunction was not granted was because the applicants have to demonstrate irreparable harm that will or is reasonably foreseeable to occur to them personally if the injunction is not granted. The two applicants could not demonstrate they were being harmed because they apparently made the application on behalf of students who actually were and are being irreparably harmed. In other words, the applicants case lacked merit insofar as they were personally, directly concerned. Other persons affected, such as the University itself, probably could demonstrate irreparable harm, but they did not form part of this application. I would add the remedy being sought was a civil remedy and nothing more than that was cogently advanced by the applicants.

McGill would have to frame that as trespass with proof of ongoing harm, damage and foreseeable liability for injury if they did not attempt to control and contain the situation using lawful means including but not limited to pursuing an injunction. That does not infer any duty whatsoever to negotiate with terrorist supporters, political insurrectionists and anarchist Marxists.
