Canadian Surface Combatant RFQ

This shows to good effect the scalability of the SPY-7 radar. Also good to see Japan continues to stick with this radar, hopefully putting to rest some of the speculation it is not as good as SPY-6.

finally a contract!
Woohoo! Some good progress on NSS these past 2 days.

finally a contract!
Yes Finally, but all the Liberal directed media horsepower was minister Wilkinson on the West Coast yesterday announcing an Ice Breaking Science vessel. The Liberals have refused to acknowledge that the World has grown darker and far less certain .

So they reluctantly announce the largest Federal Government commitment in Canada's history on a Saturday the day before the Second Trudeau moves on. They are just NOT serious people.

the polar icebreakers are a pretty serious announcement
The rivers they probably didn't want to deal with the price shock and all the American systems

Announcing a contract that they had previously announced and is really just a step on a road Seaspan and the government have been on for a few years already.

the $7Billion dollar price tag is a little concerning
Hard to judge what is appropriate or not from these figures provided when we are missing effectively all context, we can't compare them to foreign contemporaries when we don't even know what is included within them as far as costs. The RCN typically uses some very strange, overly inclusive costing methods that make comparisons effectively impossible.

Love it. What a handsome ship. As much as it's bittersweet to see the Navy get all this cool kit, what a great step for the RCN. If this keeps up, Canada might once again by a true naval power.

The RCN? No, its the accounting Gnomes at Procurement Canada insist on lifecycle costs of all major projects. That is why we get these massive sticker shocks when any piece of gear is announced. And because warship building is bloody expensive no matter which way you look at it and that all those cheaper foreign yards quote a base price for welded steel but not the costs of adding engines, hotel services, weapons, and sensors.

Would you buy a house if the selling price includes taxes, O&M, food, and clothing for the 30 years you plan to have the house?

I've argued that exact same point previously.

Regardless who hoists it upon who, we are stuck with it like an albatross around our necks.

And explain how the amounts are broken down to the general public. Instead of just dropping an eye watering price and walking away.
Its like they are acting just like how Trump loves to throw around numbers - his numbers rarely, rarely tell the complete, whole picture or accurately explain the entire situation. Its' almost like those in power/government don't want to give us accurate information but they want to keep us in the dark and in a state of constant turmoil and being pissed off.....
