2025 Federal Election - 28 Apr 25

I see 15, do I have 20 ?

Bidding Jimmy Fallon GIF by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Imagine that? Income tax cut, no carbon tax, not sending hundreds of millions of dollars to 3rd world countries. Maybe even tightening up the Liberal consultant lottery.

LPC will spin this as the CPC will need to make up the shortfall by cutting your government services! Tax cuts bad.
I’m not against income tax reductions. But we are talking about 50 to 60 billion in revenue.

That shortfall needs to be made up somewhere. Cuts or increases in other revenues.

Danielle smith cut income tax but increased property taxes to make up for it. Smoke and mirrors.

I’d be ok though if they increased consumption taxes to offset but that won’t generally be popular given the current tariff climate.

If you ramp up energy sector exports alone, and add LNG which is non-existent right now, you might add another hundred billion to these numbers...

I'm sure we can find 50 or 60 billion somewhere in this link to cut that won't affect our defence and security.

Total PS personnel costs are around 70 bn if I recall.

That sort of efficiency finding would cripple the country.

It can be part of various cuts but you won’t get to that amount with that alone.

We already know that either gvt will shrink the PS.

There are consequences to that. Intelligence, diplomatic and economic. The lessons south of us are a good indicator of what can go wrong. By all means review but a chainsaw isn’t the answer.
Sure. Until you cut capability and need to outsource it. Which is the vicious cycle.
I don’t know enough about that. If that is a cut they intend on doing that is something that will stir up a hornets nest.
Revamping the RCMP to avoid this in the future.
That happened at DND as well. Class action lawsuits will happen again across gvt Revamp or not. And especially if they plan on cutting the way they intend to.
Definitely.

I am actually against a tax cut, simply due to the fact we need to reign in 60 billion in overspending as is (let alone starting to pay back our debt).

It is childish and selfish to do such a act and it screams desperation from the Conservatives.

Some people are pretty dexterous with chainsaws :sneaky:

I'm not sure what intelligence or diplomatic harm not giving Bangladesh $270 million dollars would mean for Canada but it seems like a good example of WTF.

100%. Shitheads in the CAF costed tax payers billions too, I meant to include that. I'm not sure how Poilievre's goofy no woke military plan would turn out - could potentially make things worse (and see more lawsuits).

Always worth a detailed look, but south of us, they also learned some "foreign aid" was helping keep a grip on ISIS prisoners, so gotta be careful about chainsaws and broad brushes. Beware unintended consequences ....

Just a thought. Bet the seminar was not in ON or PQ.
Creemore, Ontario. Many U of G (Moo U), Waterloo, some Brock, U of T, I didn't catch the other ones. I ended up answering alot of questions even though my friend Greg Judy was running the seminar.

Canadians don't really seem to care about national debt especially when the last PM foolishly proclaimed that the Federal Gov took on debt, so you didn't have to.

Something I'm confused about.

Several people here, and many more on other SM platforms, have claimed that Carney was Trudeau's "shadow economic advisor" for neigh on 5 years or so, and therefore the economy of Canada will suffer the same under Carney as it did under Trudeau.

However, those people claiming such are also the same ones complaining that Trudeau is an egotistical narcissist who consolidated power within the PMO and ran it like his own little authoritarian dictatorship.

So which is it? Was Trudeau calling all the shots, and Carney will be fresh air (or at least, new air)? Or was Trudeau not entirely to blame for the economy?

Is it? Trade with Bangladesh has more than doubled in the last few years or so. 1.3 bn dollars worth in exports. Potash being our main export.

It’s one of our major export destinations for that.

It’s Westminster style country that is friendly to us and can likely open doors in India and other markets in Asia and south east Asia due to its strategic location.

Not to mention the massive amount of refugees they take in from Myanmar. Easier to invest a bit to keep them local.

Our assistance likely helps keep out “others” from filling that void.
