I never claimed whatever you're saying. I was simply wondering. You answered. Don't get excited.
I’m not excited, nor did I suggest you help that view. My answer simply took more than one sentence, and I built on the idea one step farther for the sake of discussion.

Out of curiosity do you believe the campaign should be responsible to disavow something like that if it’s false?

That's completely up to them. I have nothing to do with their operations. I don't have an opinion one way or the other.

i thought it was a thing in Canada.
Canada Elections Act, Sec. 166(1)(b)

166 (1) No person shall

  • (a) post or display in, or on the exterior surface of, a polling place any campaign literature or other material that could be taken as an indication of support for or opposition to a political party that is listed on the ballot under the name of a candidate or the election of a candidate; and
  • (b) while in a polling station, wear any emblem, flag, banner or other thing that indicates that the person supports or opposes any candidate or political party that is listed on the ballot under the name of a candidate, or the political or other opinions entertained, or supposed to be entertained, by the candidate or party.

Nothing about signs, etc. in the area surrounding a polling station beyond the immediate building that I can see.

No, they absolutely should not (IMO) be "required" or "responsible" for disavowing or verifying the veracity of such things, though it may be politically expedient to do so.

(hmm, that wasn't very hard...)

Shh don’t tell that to the people who originally lived in California, Arizona, Texas, and New…hmm…it’s on the tip of my tongue…

Seems like a common response to the backlash (including from Tony himself) was “it was a joke / a roast”.

However:

There is zero proof of this. A national comedian, whether or not his material is crap or not, likely does not use a teleprompter. They are used to performing live, on stage and are able to shift gears and change narratives on the fly.

Reddit commentators aren't vetted. Anyone can write whatever bullshit they want. Reddit is not a source to be quoted as truthful and factual. If you go looking for leftist bullshit, you'll find plenty of it. Same as a dozen other opinions. Quoting Reddit as truth from self appointed 'experts' is really, really poor research.

"It’s not clear what was vetted or approved in Hinchcliffe’s speech, but
if he was reading the offensive material from a teleprompter, its safe to assume that someone within the campaign was well aware of what he would be saying."

'If', is the operative word here. 'If' he used a teleprompter. 'If' is not definitive proof. 'If' is speculation.

But I suppose if a person is fishing around to find some tiny little fault, that they can blame on Trump, they'll latch onto whatever unqualified, unsolicited, untruthful point they can find to bolster their bias. Still doesn't make them right.

When one of your picked featured speakers at a political rally spews repeated racist garbage and you let him continue, the issue isn’t whether or not his material was on a teleprompter. The issue is what he was comfortable saying there, and how loudly how many people there cheered.

I’m not sure that makes things better.

So the RNC didn’t know what he was going to say, or what topics he’ll talk about?

As an organizer, especially for a huge media event, they had no arcs of fire for their guest speakers? And when he started saying that stuff, no one thought to cut him off?

This isn’t improv comedy night at the local bar. This is a national level media event. There is no way he just walked on stage and went off the cuff.

You are correct in one thing though - I should not be blaming Trump. I should, and am, blaming the RNC for not quashing this when it started going off the rails.

Unlike yourself, I dont profess to know the inner workings of the campaign. Absolute pure speculation on your part. You'll need better proof than your amateur opinion.

Proof of what? You're focusing on the wrong point. Would it be especially damning if the RNC did know in advance? Would it be especially damning if he was using a teleprompter? Sure. But that would only be a "force multiplier" to the malignancy of the whole event.

The real issue here is that this presenter, the lead presenter, felt it appropriate to say such terrible things at that venue. You speak to the crowd right? Why did he feel this crowd would be accepting of such vile jokes? Worse, why was the crowd so accepting of such vile jokes?

I never once defended the guy, or his comments. My narrative goes to using unsubstantiated social media posts, in order to bolster one untenable position or bias. That is the particular issue I was addressing. Not the content. Feel free to start a discussion on whatever you feel is your issue.

The so called comedian is a dick.

I didn’t accuse you of defending his comments. That would have been a very different reply. But, you’re quick to jump on one smaller aspect of this, and I didn’t see you having anything to say about what him and his views were doing on that stage in the first place, or why he got the reception he got. GOP wears that part of it too.
