U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

Here's a thought. How about we take the northern two thirds of Maine, all of Michigan, and everything north of 45 degrees 75 minutes north from Lake Michigan to the Columbia River and the rest of Washington State and call it even.
Trust me, if people think the Middle East demonstrations in Toronto are bad, do not take Michigan.

The real concerning aspect of this whole spat is how many traitors there are in Canada that would sell out their country for no real gain.

Like a certain member of parliament who had foreign children on a school trip manipulate part voting to get him in office?

It'll never happen. Lose lose. The Republicans will never win an election again and most Canadians will see their standards of living decrease. Have fun with those copays. The real concerning aspect of this whole spat is how many traitors there are in Canada that would sell out their country for no real gain (unless you're rich, then I suppose it's logical treason at least).

I for one would enjoy my 12 minutes of terrorism against the invader before inevitably getting drone striked but alas "ours is not to reason why".
Traitors.. please spare us the drama. It’s an interesting thought experiment. If Canada would act like a serious country and clean house it might not even be a topic. But in case you missed it, this place has a rather serious matter of adversarial encroachment that likely goes all the way to the PM. If only that bothered you more than this.

And another matter of adversarial encroachment that may go up the ranks of another party.

But I digress.

If true is there any wonder about the US questioning Canada’s security commitment to our alliance? Trump’s “joke” about the 51st state has a deeper meaning, I suggest. It’s “unfuck yourselves or we’ll do it for you one way or the other”.

Saying we have problems with compromised politicians compared to the Americans is rich. There's nothing interesting about it. I only see threats from someone who has proven to be irrational before, if only that bothered you.

Ivison hits the nail square with this piece.

some snips:

Every Canadian prime minister is faced with three dilemmas: the economy, unity and the U.S. None of those three central concerns are in great shape.

....nations fade away when their sense of citizenship dies
(reference to Trudeau's post-national bs).

If it turns out that Trump wants the country more than we do, we might as well give it to him.

At this point, Musk has more credibility than Trudeau.

Mr. Trudeau needs a long walk in the snow.

Musk has done more for humankind than Trudeau could ever dream of. I doubt there is any person on the planet that could defend a comparison that puts Trudeau over Musk in positive accomplishments.
All of which may be true, but it doesn't make his personal views on anything outside of his areas of expertise any more valid. He may be a genius in some areas, but as far as I'm concerned he is a high-functioning narcissist (which, I suppose, makes him and Trump a perfect couple).

I think you're incorrectly applying narcissism where high degree of confidence would probably do.

We'll have to disagree on how one bases the validity of opinions.

Based on the known history of both people, I would grant significantly more consideration to Musk's opinions (not necessarily agree) and likely find myself entirely dismiss Trudeau outright without a second thought.
