Trump administration 2024-2028

No, but it’s indicative of the profound problems Tesla now has as an increasingly toxic brand, thanks to their CEO. It will absolutely affect sales, and I bet resale value in Teslas is suffering too. That will hit their earnings. Tesla has an absolutely farcical PE ratio and market valuation, mostly built on hype. The share price has been correcting hard and will likely continue to do so in the long term. There’s no reason a company selling 1/6 the cars Toyota does should have three times the market cap.

Meanwhile, it looks like they're shedding their winter coats ;)

Tesla recalls all Cybertrucks because they’re literally falling apart

The recall is U.S.-only for now

Tesla is recalling 46,096 Cybertrucks in the U.S., or in other words, all the Cybertrucks it’s ever sold in the States. As of the time of writing, there is no equivalent Canadian recall, but due to its widespread nature, I’d expect the recall to apply to Canadian Cybertrucks soon.

The recall is over the metal trim falling off above the doors. This long metal piece is attached using a subpar adhesive that wasn’t holding up to the elements. Once the trucks go in for the recall, the company is replacing the adhesive holding the metal rail onto the truck with something that can better hold up to the elements.

According to Electrek, Tesla still hasn’t made this fix to the Cybertruck assembly line but is hoping to implement it around March 21. These trucks won’t be shipped to customers until they’re fixed.

This is the eighth recall on the Cybertruck and the second one to feature outside trim falling off in the short time that the truck has been on the roads. One of the first recalls was related to the accelerator getting stuck, which is super dangerous for a giant vehicle that can move as fast as the Cybertruck.

This will be something to follow for the next little while, we're entering new heights with this totally normal behavior by a Secretary of Commerce.

Tell me you look like you're becoming an oligarchy without saying you're looking like you're becoming an oligarchy .... 🤦‍♂️

Secretary Nutlicker's appeal may not have had the desired result.

Tesla falls after Commerce secretary recommends buying stock

Tesla shares fell early Thursday after Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick used a TV appearance to urge Americans to buy stock in Elon Musk's car company.

The rats are making their way to the exit.

Bit of a win via Qatar & Team Taliban ...

Well, so much for Free Speech:

A French scientist was denied entry into the United States earlier this month after immigration officials found text messages on his phone criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump, which they reportedly said “could be considered to be terrorism.”

Are you fucking kidding me?

Well, so much for Free Speech:

An appropriate incident to jog the sensibility and recognize that (though a day early) 92 years ago (March 21, 1933) the Malicious Practices Act (Verordnung zur Abwehr heimtückischer Diskreditierung der nationalen Regierung) was passed. Or is an updated version of the McCarran Internal Security Act of 1950 in America's future?

Kander and Ebb put it best.

Oh fatherland, fatherland, show us the sign
Your children have waited to see
The morning will come when the world is mine
Tomorrow belongs to me

Holding a truck together with hot glue.

I mean, it does jive with how Musk is coming unglued…

My brother only chats with me via secure text now if anything regarding His Assholiness is being discussed...I'm thinking I might need to get myself a separate phone (business expense for me anyway) for if I were to travel to the US for a conference or whatever; though given the current climate, I've essentially decided it's not happening anytime soon.

This is what I started doing years ago, before I would just backup and factory reset if I had to go international. I have a cheaper phone now full of texts and apps that are all purely travel related that I can just pop in my existing sim card from my regular phone.

The Tesla story is definitely epic - at first the cars appealed to a bunch of granola munching, upper middle-class do-goodies "saving the environment" one electric vehicle at a time. Then the purchase contributed to a political action campaign by the CEO of the company to re-elect Trump AKA "Drill baby! Drill!" and with a couple of "irregular salutes" at the inauguration and DOGE shenanigans I'm not so sure it still has the same appeal...

Elon managed to fleece the Left, and now the Right. I guess if you're going to work for one the biggest cons in history, you gotta show up with an impressive resume, and using the money from electric vehicles to fund and save Trump was really one crazy move. It wasn't even that long ago he had the Democrats buying Tesla's for the government fleet! Even Nancy Pelosi was raking in cash on her Tesla stock.

We know the average rural Trump supporter doesn't want an electric car - and the average urban voter probably wants to get rid of their Tesla more than they want to keep it. Many are having regrets.

So who is the Tesla target audience now? I don't really see where Tesla goes from here... If I had a Tesla I'd probably be parking it in a garage and looking to sell it, I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to be the targets of vandalism so just owning one is kind of a risk at this point. Not to mention it probably doesn't really feel like you're saving the environment anymore considering what happened.

For many, it seems the decision to buy a Tesla didn't age well. Unless maybe you're some kind of fringe electric car driving MAGA supporter who doesn't mind the heightened risk of vandalism? I'm just guessing here, but those folks are probably few and far between?

For these reasons, I don't really see Tesla bouncing back. But so far, the Tesla story has been pretty unpredictable...
