Trump administration 2024-2028

So when Trump says something nice about another leader, is that good or bad? Or is it merely conditioned on whether the listener/reader approves of the leader?

Tough to say. It‘s difficult to know if any particular thing out of Trump’s mouth is part of some manipulative strategy, or purely out of petulance. Also, little to none of it can be taken at face value. So Trump’s mouth noises are simply that; what matters more is the tangible actions and observable effects.

In and of itself, that's good.

If calling someone by their proper title, and not governor of a place POTUS47 & Co. like to talk about annexing, "saying something nice" though, you can't be surprised by people drawing conclusions about the general tone of the conversation outside that "nice" bit.

A bully stopping the beatings for a bit is a good thing, but does that mean the bullying's over and that the bully's reformed? On that ....
Or is it merely conditioned on whether the listener/reader approves of the leader?
... it depends how much you trust the bully, how comfortable you are with the bullying and the alleged reasons for it, and how much you approve of (or not) the leader, I guess. Always the way in politics.

And no one in the American sandbox seems to care.

The media bubble they live in is extreme right now, even when talking to my American friends they have to go out of their way to actually see what's going on in the world that is of any importance. Not quite North Korean level but it's scarily close, like China close.

Wait and see. If it's consistent, what lesson should Canadians draw? Should credit go to Carney, or to the absence of Trudeau? It'd be a mistake to elevate Carney for simply being not-Trudeau.
In purist, logical terms, you’re spot on.

In the current political battle space, though, not Trudeau seems to be enough to at least tolerate Carney.

Still early enough to agree 100% with “wait & see.”

Trump being who he is, Carney may have benefited from sounding like a high-end banker: a class of person DJT has actually had to make deals with, including as a supplicant, over the years.

This came to mind listening to Carney on the radio, attempting to make campaigning noises: it feels like he'd be much more comfortable speaking in paragraphs.

Liberal cognitive dissonance is: Pierre and Trump get along BAD. Carney and Trump get along GOOD. Trump probably wants Carney to win hoping it will instigate Alberta to separate and become the 51st state. He knows Carneys eco warrior agenda is good for the USA.

Missing the Mark.

Pierre and Trump getting along is seen as bad. Mostly because people don’t think PP is the best to deal with Trump.
Mark and Trump getting along is seen as good. Mostly because people think he is the best to deal with Trump.

Nuanced.

Trump is MOD EDIT.

And his policies are popular.

“As a life-long Leftie, it feels uncomfortable to be put in the position of agreeing with Donald Trump. But the fact is that he is simply saying that there are two sexes and that this matters, for example in prisons and sports. If Donald Trump says that the earth is round, should Leftists claim it is flat just to avoid being on the same side as him? This kind of tribal thinking has been horribly damaging to the Left. The idiotic positions that the Democrats took on these issues helped to gift the election to Trump. Mainstream politicians of all stripes need to learn from this that denying observable facts about the world is dangerous.”

Trump's policies, with or without Trump, are going to be around for a long while.

Not for long, as soon as the election is done, Carny will double down on the Carbon stuff and screw the Canadian economy. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig.

We’ll see.

Doesn’t matter anymore at that point as the election will be over. The whole point is what people perceive now and leading to election day.

Pierre and Trump getting along plays into the fantasy Poilievre will "selling Canada to the US" the left is pushing with all their might.
