We're never going to get there without being serious about negotiations. Canada has done it's fair share to indicate to the USA we are not serious and we want a free ride forever. The first thing that needs to happen is Canada needs a new government that isn't instinctually adversarial to America or Trump. If after all that has been done in the last 9 years we elect the LPC again, we have signaled to the USA we are not serious.

We will see if a change in government amounts to anything of substance occuring.

I stand by the comments made by the former US Ambassador to Canada and he's belief as to why Canada is being singled out.

I think his version would see people demanding he be allowed -- as we have seen with the last election, people who feel marginalized and disaffected will do crazy things...

I (and I think almost everyone on these forums) totally agree that we need to step up to do our fair share of defence spending.

However, in what way have we not been serious about our economic links to the US? We have negotiated multiple iterations of free trade agreements with the US where we have come to mutual agreement on fair terms (the last one negotiated and agreed to by Trump himself).

That same President is now unilaterally ignoring that freely negotiated treaty and stated publicly that he is using "economic force" against us in order to annex us into becoming the 51st state. Not in order to force us to increase our defence spending to a level that HE wants us to spend, but to force companies to physically relocate to US territory and in effect establish one-way trade between Canada and the US.

Where do be begin "being serious" in completely negotiating away our economic and political sovereignty to a state that wants to see us cease to be an independent nation?

Apparently it's real. I hope we can offer some help to some of these people. The maniacs advising Trump on these policies claim they are Christian and moral, what a farce that is.


American superfans here, are you cool with this? How can you look at what is happening to our South and want to hitch our wagon to them further? You want to associate with a country that is looking to deport war refugees because the Ukrainian president won't roll over and bite the pillow? The worst part is this probably isn't even the worst thing the current administration has done in their so-far short tenure. Shame on you.

It isn’t just ulkrainians either it includes people from Afghanistan some of who actually helped Americans.

The US can’t be trusted anymore.

Landed pretty much where I expected. Authority to analyze and recommend, but not to order. It moves the opposition's fight to the constitutionally-appointed department heads.
