The War in Ukraine

I have to think Ukraine has more planned as well. The first week’s efforts seem to be slowing down- to be expected as friction points accumulate and the Russians move forces in. It may be as simple as opening new axes of advance to leverage where the Russians are still or have become thin. It doesn’t sound like this is impacting the Donbas much, but time will tell.
Looking at what Russia has redeployed it appears that it is going to impact a bunch.

As there seems to be a hearty zeal to send a bunch of units directly into contact piecemeal - and divert other units around to set up defensive lines 40km or so deeper into Russia.

There is confirmation that at least two BN’s of RuAF where wiped out (from different Bde’s) by HIMARS strikes over the last two days - as well as other strikes deeper into Russia that OS BDA isn’t available for.

Combined with the Ukrainians flying strike missions into Crimea with F-16’s that seem to be inflicting some significant damage.

Then the strike on Lipetsk Mikitary airport - @Good2Golf was correct my initial google earth shot was the civilian the airport not the Southern Mil Airport. Most recent Satellite info just before the strike showed a bunch of aircraft on the tarmac - they aren’t in hangars - just arrayed on the tarmac some with small revetments between aircraft- so the strike and secondary’s may have taken some of them down - but I haven’t seen any recent airfield images (and I’m not paying to get them at this point).

A view from the banks of the Vistula

There are few trees in Warsaw’s Old Town but even if there were this one would have stood out. Its trunk is easily five feet across. It must be hundreds of years old.

I stopped. There was something off about it.

Then I realized the trunk and crown are out of proportion. The trunk is immense. The crown is a decent size, but much more modest. I looked more carefully and realized why.

When the tree was younger, but still intimidatingly large, it had been blasted apart. The current crown grew out of what survived the maelstrom.

I stared in awe. There was no plaque but it couldn’t be clearer that this tree had witnessed much, if not all, of what I described above.

Somehow, incredibly, it had survived. And grown.

Like Poland itself.

I have little doubt that that tree had witnessed the destruction of Warsaw in late 1944.

Kursk side quest update: UKR media quote RUS officials say 28 settlements are under UKR control ....
... while pro-UKR "analysts" estimate up to 44 settlements are under UKR control

Careful being a Russian is dangerous, as no one in Russia cares about you...
That reminds me of some clip that someone else posted on here maybe 1-2yrs ago of some Russian Conscripts in some barrack square that shows a Russian truck or AFV running over some recruit and his buddies pick/scrapping him up after the vehicle goes by.

I think I remember that. The squad is doing some grad choreographed ninja demo while a BTR was driving around them shooting in the air. At some point, the BTR drives into the class completely running over one soldier. A complete clusterfuck.
