On Rembrance Day, I think of my father ( RCN ) and both grandfathers ( CDN Army ) who served during the World Wars.

Also, my son, sister and brother-in-law.

And all who have served in the CAF.

I think of an uncle ( RCAF ) who never made it back from France.

Also, from what emerged after the Liberation, the wonderful assistance of average French familes to our airmen whose misfortune it was to be MIA in Occupied France.

Wish to include this,

The story of Chinese Canadian military service is one of determination, courage and honour.

A reader mentioned the Canadian Corps of Commisionares in another thread recently.

Yes, this is a necro-post regarding the Corps.

But, "Remembrance Day: National Holiday?" is 12 pages, and going on for 16 years, so I did not see the need to start a new one.

Commissionaires at CFB Borden to work Remembrance Day at regular pay

New contract removes bonus payment and puts wages in line with other Ontario employees, says official

found the decision “absolutely revolting and disgusting.”

FWIW...

I was at a ceremony at a small, local cenotaph today that was attended by - SWAG - 500+ people.

It was run by the municipality and there were only about 20 uniformed military personnel present, including the cenotaph sentries - it was easy to count them as they stood out.

I found it gratifying that the spirit of Remembrance remains strong around these parts.

Global TV did a segment on what they termed “The Purge” of LGBT members in the 50s and 90s. I didn’t think it was an appropriate time when we are supposed to remember the fallen, not further your agenda.
It could have waited.

Its infuriating.

The principal can get away with an apology because he knows that he's fire proof. This was done on purpose. I don't think anyone looking to play something different at Remembrance Day comes up with this choice without researching it.

Principal Aaron Hobbs defended the selection during one of those meetings, saying it was chosen to bring diversity and inclusion to Remembrance Day that is usually only about “a white guy who has done something related to the military.

STFU!

Not just Global ....

Wrong time/place, for sure.

The 'excuse' of DEI has been used more than once at Remembrance Ceremonies across the nation. Toronto City had its on controversial Remembrance Day Ceremony, wandering off to cover Reconciliation and Slavery. It seems that liberal progressive wokism and DEI is tearing the nation apart.

I’ll be writing a letter to a major newspaper this evening. I’ll share it here
I have a burr under my saddle.

I have a few indigenous veteran friends who would like a word with Mr. Hobbs.

Or as Joe Montagna said to Al Pacino

"I have a stone in my shoe" (think this in an NYC wise guy accent)

CTV put the new CDS on the spot with a few questions as well. The questions were appropriate, the timing was not.

Considering her responses; however, she is well-versed in government-speak and soundbites.

Yup -- often the extreme few that ruin it for the far-less-extreme many in a lot of groups.
Yup, it happens under every government. It has happened under the Liberals and will happen under the Republicans and Conservatives. The failure is to stop enabling them or at least having the courage to call them out.
