Not what I expected after class...Don't Call Me SIR!

Children!

This is Radio Chatter.

The place where the more 'trivial' subjects can be discussed.

All the Professional (We hope) talk is in the other Forums (or at least we try to keep it that way, and should it become too trivial, it will end up down here in Radio Chatter).

Finally someone that understands me for me!

It is called a "HIJACKING" and you became the victim of someone taking the topic off topic, therefore creating a whole new discussion.

Just call me "leadpipehittingbadass" and I'll be happy.

Being from the West coast, "Dude" is also acceptable.

sorry, that title is soundly wrapped up by an MWO in 3 VP.

Sure, but you were an NCM for a while first, which makes you a sort of quasi-'sir', the kind of sir very beholden to the amused hearts of those of us not dumb enough to buck for a commission (yet, in the case of some of us hypocrites).  ;D

Understood,  experience counts for allot.  How far does one need to go to be able to justifiably speak out against the systematic distruction of the cultural institutions that have protected us against tyranny ...  I say this having never been waterboarded,  but I just assume it would suck.

I dunno, but I been screamin' against the socialists in this country doing just that for almost 2 decades now.

Wow.
This place is quite efficient.

Thanks George Wallace.

remember, it's pronounced "sir", but sometimes spelled "cur"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cur (In case you don't know what it is)

Of course, when addressing me it's pronounced "Corporal", but spelled "smartass"...among others  ;)

***CYA Disclaimer***

I have nothing but the utmost respect for those officers appointed over me or indeed any in possession of the Queen's Commision, as I have faith in the training systems of the CF to root out those that are not suitable. Except for that Journeyman guy  >:D

So I'm rated below that IRA-wannabe Capt at RMC?  :'(

Well, he doesn't count. Notice how I said anyone who carries the Queen's commission... he'd probably object to me calling it that, maybe sue to get the name changed  :-*

FWIW, I have never addressed an OCdt as "sir", not when I was a Pte, a Cpl, a MCpl, or even as a Sgt.  When I was an OCdt, if ever I was addressed as "sir", I would correct whomever and politely say "I haven't earned Her Majesty's commission yet".

If you look at the QR&O's, you will see that OCdt. is a rank listed as an officer (QR&0 Volume 1 3.01).  ALL Officers CAN be referred to as "Sir", therefore it is not wrong in anyway.

Actually, from my experience, unless I am in training, I am referred to as "Sir", whereas in training it is OCdt.    In all honestly it's a whole lot easier and shorter than saying OCdt. Bloggins or Mr. Bloggins everytime.

Cheers

Not to pee in your cornflakes (I would never do that, trust me), but it has been my experience that it is improper to address an officer cadet as sir.  Also, if you look at QR & O Vol 1 3.01, all members of the CF (less naval pers) shall be addressed by by the rank in para 1.  Having said that, it has been my experience that trained 011 crewman of the rank of private are addressed as "trooper", 021 and 022 members of the rank of corporal are addressed as bombardier.  Also, MCpl is not a rank, so according to QR and O vol 1 3.01, they shall be addressed as corporals.
Here's the legal-ese version of what I just said:
Except in accordance with paragraph (2), no officer or non-commissioned member shall, after the coming into force of this article, use or be referred to by a designation of rank other than as set out in Column I of the Schedule to the National Defence Act.
Who is referred to as "sir" is not covered in that article of the QR and O's, so, again, from my experience, I'll let it go at that.
