3P works just fine.
The problem with the reload is that most defenses on warships are for self defence. The Houthi are not attacking the ships, they are attacking other things in the neighbourhood. So you have to use an AAD weapon and those missiles are expensive. A drone swarm actually attacking a warshipis not what we are seeing here.

The US is desperate to avoid a protracted war in the Middle East. The USN is overextended globally and if if gets itself decisively engaged, others will take advantage.

Yes and that's the point. Western population is suffering from exhaustion. There also isn't a connection from this generation to events in that region.
We can see that in the reactions to the current situation in Gaza and elsewhere. Information is also more readily available from all sides and trust in Government and Institutions has never been lower.
9/11/2001 was 20+ years ago. The latest recruits weren't even alive then and anyone that remembered that time is either retired or very senior.
Morale has never been lower IMO.

The US election has a huge influence on this as well. Biden being drawn into what would essentially be an unwinnable war would be a huge bonus for Trump.

Exactly, but look at War support. Probably 50%+ of Americans would pull the plug on Ukraine or Israeli immediately if given a say.

Israel probably doesn't really need help. Ukraine does, but which countries can provide aid without essentially having to borrow the money first? Which voters are willing to bear that cost? And what kind of spending are voters/politicians prepared to cut in order to pay for aid?
Wait and see whether the economic costs rise to the level of putting more fiscal pressure on ordinary people. Then maybe there will be some popular support for a solution which escalates the fight.

Looking over those articles it is interesting to note that "Official" Labour supported total war after Uncle Joe was invaded by Hitler in 1941 but the Workers were still inclined to fight their own bread and butter issues by striking despite the war.
And people were being arrested for pro-nazi, pro-fascist and pro-communist simpathies in liberal democracies.
Life is complicated. 90% approval ratings, such as George W. Bush achieved in Sept 2001 don't happen often and don't last long.
