2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

Northern Perspective has been doing an excellent job. And they expanded into a weekly show with True North

Haven’t listened to it yet (I will) but since I hadn’t heard of that channel before, I decided to check the media bias on it.

I found a YouTube video from them from a few months ago where the male presenter stated that due to their reporting on the ArriveCan issue, the Fed Govt made all PS disclose their side income and therefore he had to leave his job.

Validity of their reporting aside, I’m pretty sure that federal public servants have to sign something saying that they won’t publicly bash their employer. They didn’t use their real names or show their faces prior to him losing his PS job, but a quick perusal of their videos on YouTube shows their bias against the LPC.

There’s probably only so far you can go saying “I’m a private citizen and can have my own opinions” - I guess having an online news channel crosses that line?

I think more likely that the Donald will "strongly encourage" whichever Prime Minister to tighten up borders, period. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future, if Asylum seekers find it much more difficult to make a claim and/or have their cases heard much, much quicker than current status quo. And most likely deportations will actually happen. The Donald has a lot of power and it isn't just going to be about physical security at the border, he is going to want to see us actually follow our own rules and regulations.

Add to that, even the Trudeau Liberals are publicly turning against abuses to our immigration and refugee system.

Yup, I think border integrity is going to become a much larger issue. Lots of agencies implicated there, many but by no means all federal.

For sure. It won't matter if Pierre or Justin is running the show, they both better buck up on that issue.

Canadians themselves also have a responsibility to buck *up on the issue…

Edit post-spell chekur
All in all Canadians need a wake up call. Pretty much all of us that have served in the CAF knew the grim reality that we have never had a safe world and we have better increase defence spending and management for the longest time (its probably what we all agree on).

That line of thinking with your average Canadian goes right along with the naeive thinking that bad people won't come here or we don't need to worry about X or Y.

The harsh truth most of realize
-The world is not and never has been a safe and peaceful place, our society ws for the most part because of how we manage it
-There are bad people who do very bad things with no remorse trying to get into our country or the USA or both
-Spending money effectively on defence, policing, justice, border security does not mean we have to interfere with the more effective social programs

If current polling is accurate and holds, PP is on track for the largest electoral victory in Canadian history.

Not too bad for a guy that was accused of being a right wing temp leader of the CPC who would bring them another loss.

Or not bad for a guy facing one of the most disliked PMs in Canadian history.

Definitely a factor. But that factor didn't stop a pile of people on this forum suggesting PP wouldn't amount to much.

That isn’t what was said. At all.

For my part I kept saying he needed to change his approach and needed to soften his image. His dog barking and tone needed a makeover if he ever wanted to convince Canadians that he was a viable alternative.

Some people thought his approach was just fine but the moment he had his makeover and hired an image consultant and did literally what was being suggested his poll numbers started to climb and never really dropped. Coupled with a more disciplined approach and a saavy social media campaign he’s getting more success.

I’m probably still not voting for him at least not at this time but I can still recognize his political acumen and opportunism.
