In past wars Isreal has pretty much stopped when UN demands, today I think not so much. Thet are going to end this particular problem once and for all. Hmm maybe the folks in Lebanon might wake up, if not might become painful both at home and in Syria, Iran and other locales.

Decades of anti-Israel resolutions with no consequences. Decades of military action with nobody fighting beside them. Millenia of being the other.

No. They absolutely won’t. They’ll kill a bunch of people and destroy a ton of stuff, but that’s absolutely not going to end any of the underlying problems. Cutting out one peripheral malignancy doesn’t cure an underlying cancer. Don’t labour under any illusion that peace in Gaza/Israel can be achieved simply by beating Hamas hard enough.

It’s ridiculously simplistic to think that imperialist Japan is meaningfully comparable to decades of embedded militancy and anti-Zionism in Gaza. Japan could be defeated that way because what needed to be defeated was a nation state and its industrial and military might. In Gaza what somehow needs to be defeated is an ideology that is deeply ingrained within much of the civilian population, many of whose beliefs will nonetheless lever cross into tangible action that would make them lawful military targets, but who continue to reinforce and perpetuate religious and cultural beliefs that underlie all of this.

Anything can be defeated. Even an ideological driven culture. It's just that what would need to be done to defeat that threat, once and for all, is unpalatable to most other civilized societies. They would rather someone else live under constant threat of destruction than agree that a destruction would need to be carried out for one side to survive.

A lot of opinions would change on this side of the ocean if the decision was between you and yours surviving vs the ones who want to see you destroyed entirely. But that problem is an ocean away, for now.
