If you can, search on the ‘net or at the local CFRC for information on running and jogging. Lots of good training info out there.
Get into a good overall fitness program that builds strength and endurance. Joining a fitness club isn‘t a bad idea because they got the equipment.
Get a good pair of running shoes. Theres a thread in Recruiting about "flat feet" that might answer some questions.
Do weights for the legs and back; quadricep curls, hamstring curls, squats, calves and the deadlift. Go easy on the back if you‘re not used to weights.
Use the elliptical trainer to get the heart rate up and warm up the lower leg area.
Get into a progressive running program. The CFRC has a good pamphlet called CF EXPRES Jogging. Using the treadmill, build endurance on one day by running moderately, another day running slowly to build endurance, and then another quickly (wind sprints) for cardio and muscular development. You must develop strength, endurance, and cardiovascular capacity to excel.
Over time, you‘ll get there.
