dont you have to admit guilt to be pardoned?
dont you have to admit guilt to be pardoned?
Some farmers who lost during Trump’s last administration due to tariffs, stand to lose more if Trump goes through on his promise.I'm not sure the 'cost' part was ever considered. The entire emphasis was re-homing manufacturing and put an end to 'the world taking advantage of us'.
Rural States Vote For Trump, Next Day Farm Futures Newsletter Concerned About Trump's Tariffs and Trade Wars Costing Billions to Grain Producers
The idea that you can pardon yourself for crimes is messed up on principle.
...after a sleepless night, here is my morning-after self-truth-telling. It’s time we liberal Democrats faced up to the truth: We have become the party of intolerance and shaming, and a lot of ordinary Americans who once reliably voted Democratic and shared our Franklin Roosevelt-era liberalism that viewed government as a force for good now look at us as out-of-touch elites. And worse, as controlling scolds.
I thought about my own fear of writing or saying something that might alienate those who call themselves “progressives” in the Democratic Party (and who roll their eyes when I use the word “liberal” from my dad and FDR’s vocabulary). We need to self-reflect on the fear we have created within our own ranks of saying and writing what we really think and feel out of fear of political and social ostracism and, honestly, of shaming by the base of our party.
For me, this is the biggest lesson of why so many people voted for Trump, so many people I know, people who are friends. They resent the intolerance of people who call themselves “progressives” – but whose instinct of intolerance is not liberal at all. It is illiberal and reactionary. And yet I feared alienating them. I feared being shamed by them.
So our base, and I include myself in sharing this blame, feared speaking out loud what we felt about the hundreds of thousands of migrants who crossed our borders in the last four years. I have Latino friends, waiting for their green cards, who admitted with some hesitancy that they were voting for Trump. They did so not despite his immigration views, but because of them. Knowing he would be called a racist for doing so, Trump said that it’s time to enforce the law and stop illegal migrants from “jumping the line,” as one of my Latino friends said to me approvingly – approving of Trump, not the migrants.
Spme very valid points. I agree, many slightly left leaning stay away from Liberal/NDP/Democrats because of the intolerant "progressives"Meanwhile, the 2 by 4 has proven an effective cure in at least one case...
And as an example he offers up this:
The migration estimate is out by an order of magnitude or two but at least he is heading in the right direction.

The article references the Bernie Bros. Way back in 2015 the Democrats had their own populist wing in the Rust Belt. And their champion was Bernie Saunders. When Hilary's Syndicate crushed Bernie like a bug a lot of those Bernie Bros bought MAGA hats.
Do what?Okay, but only if you promise not to do it again.
Amazing. Some farmers who lost during Trump’s last administration due to tariffs, stand to lose more if Trump goes through on his promise.
Also, to no one’s surprise: Republicans Celebrate by Admitting They Can't Wait for Project 2025
Good thing they passed the Electoral Reform Act to prevent exactly what the MAGA Republicans tried to do.We'll see when it comes time for the House to certify the vote.
Very curious to see the voter turnout numbers, specifically when they get broken down by age.I refuse to believe that Harris isn't POTUS right now because 51%+ of US are racist and or sexist. That's just a silly and pouty childlike excuse.
The Dems appointed a candidate and she flopped.
They lost this by leaving Biden in place for too long and then putting in a very unpopular VP to replace him. Its almost like they were throwing the election.
I think the highlighted above is part of the problem for the Dems. They are pushing people away.
Doesn’t fit whatever story gets made up for various narratives. What I dont understand is why didnt the Democrats rig this election like the last time? Seems like a missed opportunity
The establishment cannot corrupt him? Wow. He’s already corrupt and bent out of shape. He’s a rapist, a racist, a conman, he has cheated his business partners and says people should be shot. In the previous election he told his fans that if any of them were arrested for attacking or injuring protestors during his rally that he would foot the bill. People who saw him during the January 6 riots said he was happy at what he was seeing. He seems to love violence when it is used in his favour. Many of his former staff and advisers have said he is too dangerous to have that high office. He wants unchecked power to satisfy his sick ego and wants the armed forces to swear allegiance to him and not to the constitution. In other words, he becomes The State. Like all tinpot dictators he picks up on some of the things (e.g. immigration) that the people want something done about. And he will keep his word. I’m sure of that. But Mary Trump was right…Donald Trump is seriously disturbed. The establishment doesn't like him because they cannot corrupt him.
What did he do in his last term that wasn't "hinged"?
Abraham Accords?
No new foreign wars?
Cessation of North Korean missile and nuclear tests?
The best economy in many years? My RRSP certainly benefitted from that.
Voter turnout was down. Not sure why or by what demographic though.Very curious to see the voter turnout numbers, specifically when they get broken down by age.
My prediction is the youth/younger vote stayed home and the older voters showed up.
I don't think the final complete tallies are in yet... are they?Voter turnout was down. Not sure why or by what demographic though.
Total votes
Democrat Republican
2024 67,086,190 71,929,611
2020 81,283,501 74,223,975
A lot of people stayed home it would seem.
no but i dont think they can make up that deficitI don't think the final complete tallies are in yet... are they?
Not sure. But I doubt that 16 million extra votes are still incoming.I don't think the final complete tallies are in yet... are they?

Not to say he won’t do any good. Hey, even Mussolini could be credited with making the trains run on time. Oh, yes, Hitler built the autobahn. Now, if only Trump had the kind of generals Hitler had. Even some of the tinpot dictators from the so-called shithole countries Trump despises have probably done at least a few good deeds to justify their control.
Sorry, pal, I know many people here feel that America needs someone like Trump. But the more I see and hear him speak, the more I’m convinced that the American public has reached a new low in the person they have made their president and the leader of the free world. It’s as if the people have been conditioned by a powerful cult leader to hang on his every word and every deed as if it is a divine occurrence.
