US Presidential Election 2024 - Trump vs Harris - Vote Hard with a Vengence

I have no idea, that didn't happen.
True but blaming the loss on rednecks and chauvinists will conceal potentially greater errors. The swing states generally swing for better reason than gender. CBS reported that more than half of republican voters biggest concern was the budget. The plethora of land being covered with solar panels and windmills probably got the agricultural voters a tad ticked off and the closing of coal mines would have clinched the rust belt. Nothing sexist about any of those I was a bit surprised at the Maine vote as I thought the offshore developments might have pulled a few more votes to the right..

The Republican Party under Trump is now a populist & blue collar party. An overwhelming # of young men voted for Trump and a significantly less amount of women voted for Harris compared to Biden 4 years earlier.

Trump leads the popular vote by 5 million votes and is winning in every swing State. It's a slam dunk for team RED.

Kevin O'Leary hit the nail on the head when he said that the Democrats will need to reinvent themselves after this.

Ultimately the election is as much a judgment on the American people as it is on the man they have returned to office. Trumpโ€™s comeback didnโ€™t happen at random. By building a social and political movement that gave him coercive power over the Republican Party, Trump systematically demolished many of the nationโ€™s long-standing norms, ushering in a cohort of lackeys who will enable his most autocratic impulses. He will enter his second term committed to creating a governing environment with few restraints on his power. He did not hide any of this. It was what the American people decided they wanted.

Emphasis mine.

I refuse to believe that Harris isn't POTUS right now because 51%+ of US are racist and or sexist. That's just a silly and pouty childlike excuse.

You're oversimplifying what I've said.

Ignoring it as a factor is being willfully ignorant.

Harris isn't POTUS for a number of reasons. However, being a visible minority, and a woman has also factored in.

Hey man your post is quoted. All I can read is what you type.

While I don't argue that racism and sexism exists I don't think it's as rampant and influential as some would have you believe. And I don't think it was a deciding factor in this election.

Hey man your post is quoted. All I can read is what you type.

If you bothered to read my post from yesterday, I highlighted a few areas where Harris may not do as well as polls indicated. Including problematic accountability around legislation.

As noted. Not the ultimate reason for why she isn't POTUS. But not acknowledging it as a factor when people find themselves in the voting booth isn't realistic.

DJT resonated with a lot of men when polled. And much like 2017, voters in places like the rust belt felt better served by voting for him.

CBC even interviewed someone down in Ogdensburg this am, their first answer was to illustrate how Watertown, Ogdensburg used to have mills and industry. Harris' take was that if manufacturing went offshore...then people should go to college. Very much like the elitist sentiment put out by HRC in 2017.

Or maybe the fact that she was never seen doing anything substantial (that was newsworthy) during the last 4 years might have contributed just a little bit? Race didn't stop Obama. To be fair though, her late arrival and Biden's illness along with people's reaction to him after the debate didn't help

Why would I go back and reread your post from yesterday ?

Your typed words are 'Much of this election result...'

'Much' of what you post here I agree with.

Oh, absolutely.

As I've indicated. Race and sex may not have been the deciding factor. But writing it off isn't exactly the case either.

And there is of course, the curse of the VP....where often the US 2IC is seen as more ceremonial, and much less effective....and it translates into votes at election time.

While my wife is Canadian and can't vote in the US, she is a women and brown, and she would have voted for Trump, as she despised KH for being basically a sock puppet for the power brokers in the Dem party and basically following the Clinton play book. It's not that she thinks Trump is perfect or great, but just the better of two poor choices.

With an eye towards looking at our own backyard. Our house is at a point of time where the minority parties surrounding the liberals won't support them for very much longer. If an election is triggered here, or even the regular election date next year occurs. It is unlikely that Trudeau survives. Poilievre's platform, and baseline politics might align well with the Trump administration.

Not going to say that I called it yesterday. But I firmly believe what I said held true. Much of this election result can be attributed to an undercurrent of institutional racism, and sexism in the US. Many of the news outlets are identifying how Trump resonated with men. Polls don't mean Jack, it's what happens in that voting booth that matters. And people know that it's a secret ballot. They often vote their conscience, but more often will vote against what they don't want.

The next 4 years are going to be interesting.
Saw this and thought of part of your postโ€ฆ

I'd write it off as irrational. Trump got a record number of minority votes for a Republican ticket this time.

Some of us suspected you would be.

lol Are you going to be insufferable now ? lol You probably deserve to be after the beating you've taken on here.

Hey man, it was solid pounding on all fronts, the Popular vote, electoral college, senate and possibly even the house...

What happened here is a failure of candidate and policy. They simply failed. And the Dems will need to come to terms with the fact that their own plays did this.

Changes need to be made for the Dems to come back.

No. I won't. I just find the ongoing analysis interesting, although I am continually surprised at what gets ignored vs promoted in all that.
