I think I've been pretty clear that I'm not a Trump supporter, but having watched this video I kinda get why some people are.

Watch the whole thing, and forget that it's Trump.

Imagine any other politician making that many self deprecating remarks in that time frame... He mocks himself and his wealth, while also praising working class people.

Nobody voting Trump thinks Trump is one of them, but he at least seems to pretend that he sees them, and cares about them. Whether or not it's reality is not actually that important. All of us know politicians lie to get elected. Trump is open about lying, but genuinely tries to come across as honest about his lying.

To bring this back to the CAF, when the CO, XO, and Cox'n are standing there serving Sundaes on Sunday, nobody thinks that the command team went down into the freezers, pulled the ice-cream and toppings, then set up the streamline/table. We all know they showed up when things were set-up for them, scooped some ice-cream, then went back to their normal jobs. Trump openly mocks that about his stops... People like that.

And the Republicans utterly rejected that denial. And to an extent they were right. If the Republicans want to be hypocrites, fine; nobody will be surprised by that. But, if they believed their concerns about Biden’s faculties and ability to serve out a four year term were fair (which IMO they were), it’s tough to square that with ignoring Trump’s clear decline.

Jon Stewart’s Weekly show (also available as a podcast) had a good episode the other day about both parties using “patriotism” for their own ends. There is a particularly good part about disinformation.

It’s an hour long but well worth the watch / listen. For anyone who hasn’t seen The Weekly Show, it doesn’t have the comedy of The Daily Show and is more of an interview-style episode.

I don’t think many people care about the ability of a 78 year old to climb into a truck cab. It’s more the unending streams of incoherent or rambling nonsense and lies, which greatly predate the rigors of the campaign.

Further to the subject of people quietly voting Harris who won’t say so out loud- here are a couple of the late-campaign ads that have been run from the Harris side reminding people that “what happens in the booth stays in the booth”. It’s pretty decent messaging. It’s understandable why some of the “control your wife” types on the MAGA side have been more than a bit pissed off.

Saw an interesting opinion on the silent vote Harris might get from some republicans. In a lit of areas you that house with a million trump signs and flags but all the houses nearby have nothing. No trump signs and no Harris signs. The thought is that they might be silent voters for Harris.

Even now that she is the candidate, Harris hasn't been able to utter a frank admission of how unfit Biden is. They will still insist he was/is up to the job, even as they are conceding he won't be actively involved in campaigning for Harris any more.

Sure. At the utmost end of political need, AFTER the evidence was irreversibly revealed to millions of viewers, AFTER lying for months about what people routinely in contact with Biden must have known. If their cover hadn't been blown by the debate or some subsequent public appearance equally as bad, would they have acted?

No-one has to guess about Trump's state; he's in front of people pretty much every day. Little, if anything, is hidden. Almost no-one except people opposed to Trump and looking for political leverage is concerned. If he wins, I can guess they won't argue he should be ejected from office on 25A grounds. All their "concern" will vanish like the proverbial fart in a hurricane, because it's only an election ploy.

The point isn't about Biden. It's about the character of the people who tried to shine everyone on.

the evidence on Biden was that he was not a winnable candidate. Is he mentally impaired? Maybe? Probably? The Republicans have stuck with Trump because they think they can win with him. His mental capability and suitability for office are irrelevant to that consideration.
