Not the most intutitve choice to me, but I suppose as a US supplier they were well positioned for the job.

You're sorta fucked if you fall overboard, blending in so nicely with the deep blue sea....

A bit on the long side of ugly in my books, but that will do wonders for their supply folks. Replacing SEVEN working uniforms? Isn't the point of a uniform to have everyone looking the same?

American Apparel in Selma, AL received a maximum $8.1 million firm-fixed-price with indefinite-quantity contract to supply items for the US Navy Task Force Uniform (TFU).

This might be dumb but what exactly do they mean when they say Indefinite quantity?

I was curious about that too:

3) Fixed Price Contracts: is driven by the delivery and acceptance of a product or service, and include:

    * fixed price labor hour: services at a fixed hourly rate
    * fixed price level of effort: usually for services, such as feasibility studies
    * fixed price monthly billing: usually management of a government facility
    * fixed unit price: usually indefinite quantity (gov't does not know in advance what quantity of product it needs)
    * firm fixed price contract: almost always awarded for product procurement

Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity - this contract differs from a requirements contract. The contract normally provides for a promised minimum amount and a maximum (not-to-exceed) amount.

NCDs are not much better

Well at least the Yanks are not outsourcing this contract to the Chinese as the Brits did a few years ago.  I do like the "TFU" part though... the uniform looks totally f****d up.
