I just came here to post about this. This one’s developing very quickly. Trump proclaimed the Alien Enemies Act in effect today, as it pertains to alleged members of Tren de Aragua, a Venezuela based cartel. The order for the invocation is, uh, really something: Invocation of the Alien Enemies Act Regarding the Invasion of The United States by Tren De Aragua

This is explicitly a wartime power, and he presents the situation as America being deliberately infiltrated with hostile intent by Venezuela, with the knowledge and direction of President Maduro.

A federal district court has already this afternoon ordered an emergency temporary restraining order without a hearing. The administration has already filed an appeal. This could be a flashpoint for the administration’s willingness to abide by judicial orders. Cynically I can’t help but wonder if it’s deliberately contrived as such, to give the administration a wedge case to justify starting to ignore orders of district court judges…

Dark times ahead. Even if this is supposed to be targeted, I highly doubt it won't be used maliciously against anyone who looks vaguely Venezuelan.
