Trump administration 2024-2028

No clue.

Has a PM who is a laughing stock ever been able to get an audience with a President Elect before any other world leader?
To be fair, JT was behind Mexico, Ukraine, and Russia (although Russia is backtracking on the call) :sneaky:

Negative, he's the first.

Hard to believe his approval rating is slow low when he's clearly so influential on the worst stage :)

... Trump's a laughing stock but our Prime Minister is rushing to meet with him 2 months before he's even sworn in. Has a world leader ever met with a US president-elect prior to getting sworn in in the past?
Do phone calls count? ;)
And this one depends on who you believe ....
Also, a reminder that Trump reportedly told Team Japan "no meetings yet, thanks" ...

... so why do you think POTUS47 decided to take this meeting this time with this world leader?

Also, here's one version of how the DJT-JT meeting went ...
... with this from one of the participants

... so let's see what happens next. I'm not confident of optimal exploitation by current Team Red management, but I dare to dream, too.

Invading Mexico with military forces would be a pretty bold move. No way at all that could possibly go wrong. They’d need one hell of a CSAR plan.
CBP’s BORTAC unit used to do cross border work all the time with the DEA, sometimes with Mexican forces, sometimes without. (Could be the reason they got shut down?).

Due to the way President Obama created Clandestine Service rules, Special Mission unit military personnel are not considered military personnel, so like CIA Special Activities personnel can be deployed both domestically and internationally without any restrictions on our end ( now it’s embarrassing if they get outed ).

Delta killed Pablo Escobar, so it’s not without precedent.

I'm so glad you asked.

Posturing. Trump made some big-deal threats and has Canada, and Trudeau, over a barrel.

Trudeau, who is drowning in the polls, is desperate to save face. Team Trump knows how to use google search and knows the precarious position Trudeau is in; they're happy to start their 4 years with Canada on it's knees.

Latest appointment announcement: Charles Kushner, father of Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner, has been named as Trump’s pick for ambassador to France.

Trump has previously pardoned Charles Kushner for tax evasion, witness tampering, and illegal campaign contributions (to Democrat campaigns some years back). Kushner is a real estate developer, and a major Trump donor. He does not have State Department or diplomatic experience.

One not unreasonable take. If he really wanted to rub his nose in it, Team Trump could have pulled a “no meetings yet” and let the world know that, too.

Another take: someone made DJT realize Canada’s worth meeting with (not PMJT, but Canada) as a neighbour worth being less than shrill with. As social posts go, DJT’s on the meeting wasn’t as hyperbolic as some.

There’s likely all sorts of reasons in between those two extremes. Your political mileage may vary.

This sounds... encouraging?

Trump praises "very productive" Mar-a-Lago meeting with Trudeau

But much of Trump's Saturday afternoon statement following the meeting focused on the "drug crisis that has decimated so many lives".

"I made it very clear that the United States will no longer sit idly by as our Citizens become victims to the scourge of this Drug Epidemic, caused mainly by the Drug Cartels, and Fentanyl pouring in from China," Trump wrote.

"Prime Minister Trudeau has made a commitment to work with us to end this terrible devastation."

Also a few more details.

The important part is what's best for Canada. We're stuck with Trump, who responds to ass kissing, which is free. I don't give a damn about national dignity if we get national advantage out of something. It behooves the PM, Cabinet, and diplomatic corps to pucker up if that's the easiest way to get whatever Canada might want. Yes, Mr. President, you're the best leader ever to lead a country, just the best. Granted, just typing that feels dirty...

Same principle as Parliamentary apologies: if it avoids a lawsuit or shaves a few million off a settlement, then yes, we're extremely sorry, so very sorry.

Mar-a-Lago has been buzzing with activity since President-elect Trump’s historic election win over Vice President Harris earlier this month, and this Thanksgiving saw a number of high-profile names descend on the ritzy Florida club, including tech billionaire Elon Musk, "Rocky" star Sylvester Stallone and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau — to name a few.

Top billing.

I would qualify him a celebrity turned politician. Apparently celebrity status is something of a value measure there.
While a number of US celebrities have chosen to leave the US in the wake of Trump's victory, can we hope that our political celebrity Trudeau might choose to leave Canada in the coming months? Maybe a trade of sorts?

Who exactly would you want to trade for though?

Looks like Tariffs will be happening one way or another. I guess it will depend on how long and what is negotiated after they are place.
