"Alleged." Here we have been wringing our hands about what might happen if we mention the names of MPs who might have to be investigated for foreign connections, and suddenly the standard of innocent-until-proven-etc drops like a rock when you don't like the accused.
so are you going to call out the people using the term "biden crime family" when only Hunter has been charged with a tax and gun offence?

To stab his dad’s deal with the mob in the back.

It is a cesspool, and just needs to be burned out.

Insubordinate is an interesting term.

I think that one should push competence above all, as really if you hire a bunch of sycophants, it’s just a different type of ‘woke’.
More like “blindered”

Conveniently nobody is looking into “the big guy’s” role in any of that.

right so absent any charges being laid against other Bidens the term "biden crime family" is without merit and I would expect that anyone who gets their panties in a twist about Gaetz being labelled an alleged sex trafficker would also refrain from using it.

edited to rephrase it a bit

If the evidence of Matt Gaetz paying a minor for sex came from classified national security intelligence, the disclosure dilemmas would be similar. Since it’s not - it’s things like witness statements and Venmo records - your equivalence is false. You’re also aware, of course, that a House ethics committee investigation does not have to hold itself to the criminal standard of “proof beyond a reasonable doubt”, but simply to look at what the evidence shows. Your attempted equivalence to the much more challenging problem posed by foreign interference is a false one.
An equivalence between the facts of the cases isn't the point. The point is the general idea of innocent until proven otherwise in criminal court. Better ten guilty free than one innocent convicted means acknowledging that some people might be guilty, and we still ought to behave as if they are not if the ideal is to mean anything. Otherwise we are merely punishing people with a kind of vigilante-lite justice without due process.

In the broader real and political worlds, an accusation of sexual impropriety of any degree almost always causes permanent reputational damage. We degrade ourselves by permitting this particular category to be judged by any standard less than "beyond reasonable doubt" in any context. I've already acknowledged (probably several times over the years) that congressional investigations are prone to politicization, including internal party political agendas. Those who think some congressional investigations (eg. into Biden's affairs) are politicized witch hunts while others are justice paramount can sort that out for themselves.

The panic over Gaetz's name being advanced might be premature. He might not have enough support among Republicans in Senate to be confirmed, in which case he has outsmarted himself by resigning from the House.

No, I'm not on a crusade to protect everyone. Biden's affairs merit investigation. Gaetz has been investigated.

The reason I don't get my panties in a twist about everything is because as I noted in a slightly earlier post, accusations of sexual impropriety tend to be highly and approximately permanently damaging. Accusations of white collar financial crimes and political corruption don't carry the same taint - the usual critics will of course continue to be the usual critics, but everyone else seems to be disinterested until something is proven in criminal court. Some will even insist that an "absence of proof" means that no formal investigation is warranted, even though the point of an investigation is to seek proof. Some of the same people will, in a different political context, insist that weak allegations are bases for launching deep investigations. My beef is that the same standards should apply across different contexts and categories of crimes.

I don't care about Gaetz the person, or whether or not he becomes the AG. One way or the other, there will be an AG nominated by Trump, and along with almost all the other appointments, reasons will be dredged up to oppose the nomination. The people advancing the reasons will behave as if the reasons are disqualifications, ignoring the multitudes of flawed people who were nominated and confirmed and employed in high appointed positions over the years, many of whom behaved badly or incompetently. I'll probably mostly stick to my favourite yardstick: how many people not eligible to vote in US elections or subject to US law did they contribute to killing or otherwise immiserating without a manifestly compelling cause?

We're likely looking at the same goat rodeo for Gaetz that we had for Judge Kavanagh's confirmation. The dems are pretty good at finding and using obscure witnesses to level accusations of sexual impropriety in people being put forward by Republicans. The whole phony shit show that they put Kavanagh and his family through is standard operating procedure for them. They don't care about ruining lives and livelihood. As long as they can throw enough shade to develop doubt. Goetz will likely face the same sort of ordeal.

But until he has been investigated there is no support for the term "biden crime family" old Joe after all is innocent until proven guilty, just like Gaetz.

The Outlaw President has a nice ring to it.
It will interesting to see what callsign the USSS applies to Trump this time around. The only one I'm aware of was Rawhide for Reagan, likely because of his acting past in westerns.

Although I recognize the Secret Service aren't stupid, Capone has a ring to it.

I think “the Don” might be fitting… though perhaps too obvious.

The way things have been going, "Figure 11" for those inclined to dark humour.

Sure. And it's difficult to separate publicly available evidence/knowledge from due process. We know Biden retained documents he was not authorized to retain, and that the prosecutor might have charged Biden if Biden had been less mentally infirm, but Biden is still innocent of that, also. There is probably something similar (evidence/knowledge) that can be hung on Gaetz, if you wish.

she’s both.

Jesus wept the US somehow went from insanely woke to dangerously batshit crazy and completely unhinged in the space of 2 weeks.

Well, to be fair, I think it's just mostly the people at the top of the political food chains ;)

... Gaetz resigns from the House before an Ethics Committee report on him was to be released on Friday.

Some of the U.S. commentariat have been saying there might be a push to keep from releasing the report, but I haven't found MSM confirmation of that.

Meanwhile, do these guys know something other Americans don't?
