Except Freeland just countered that with what she wrote in her letter. She seemingly has positioned herself as a centrist with that. She literally disagreed with the policies and said they were wrong and got a standing ovation from a lot of caucus members.

Does it resonate? Time will tell. It did not go unnoticed though.

The standing ovation could as easily have been for her service in moving forward the policies as a key LPC leader in the last 9 years.

I’m not sure the LPC actually thinks that they need a different policy direction. I suspect the internal thinking is more along the lines of Trudeau as a personality being the liability vs the LPC policies.
There has been minimal conversation about the policies being wrong from the LPC caucus. Most LPC MPs seem very content with their parties policy direction.

Could be…I suspect it was more about supporting her recent decision. A minister resigning while dropping a fire bomb on the leader shouldn’t typically get that sort of reaction unless there is more to it.

My point is that if the party wants to make it close at the next election and avoid being relegated to 3rd or 4th, new leader and new direction is required. Trudeau leaving is one step in that prprocess.

If someone is willing to vote for Trudeau's current band of Liberals, with or without him at the helm, then they're giving all those corrupt and immoral politicians a free pass for their behavior.

It's clear a new leader is required, but there's still a lot of rot that needs excised.

If that was even her objective. She could simply not want to be a minister if she felt she didn’t have the confidence of Trudeau. Time will tell if she actually will now support or lead a revolt or demonstrate aspirations to be the leader.

I would not recommend the LPC choose its next leader from anyone inside the Trudeau cabinet ( I could maybe be convinced otherwise in only one case) nor from the same progressive wing.

Trudeau knows he's fucked. He can read the writing on the wall. So he comes up with a plan to keep Liverals in power. He purposefully makes a mockey of the deficit "guardrail" blowing past it by 50% giving our heroine Freeland cause to take a stand against him.

He puts some icing on the cake by "telling her" he doesn't want her as finance minister and will offer her a consolidation prize lesser cabinet position.

Our noble centralist Liberal Freeland rejects the offer and courageously steps down form the cabinet, with some devastating criticism ("gimmicks"), but signals she still wants to run again in the next election.

Trudeau goes for his walk, Freeland, who is totally against Trudeau now [ ] rises like a red phoenix to lead the newly reorganized and reenergized Liberal party.

Regardless of whom the LPC may choose as its next leader they need to suffer a series of defeats and to wander in the wilderness for a few years. Only then can they rethink their existence, reconnect with the people and (hopefully) rid themselves of the influence by the Laurentian Elite.

However, last night as she was leaving the Laurentien Club, both her and Pony Boy were all smiles, hugging and shaking each other's hands.

I would never say they were smart enough to intentionally orchestrate the whole fiasco, but these two and this party have never been shy about deceiving Canadians.

Canadians have seen way too much criminal activity take place, by too many members, to think a change in leadership will solve their election problems.

I think much of the Liberals’ current unpopularity is solely based on Trudeau’s unpopularity. If he leaves, I expect to see a lot of the Liberals’ support to come back, no matter who they pick for leader.

There is still a lot of mythology that they are “centrist” by the majority of voters who don’t pay attention to politics.
