The War in Ukraine

I could see a joint Franco-Polish effort to station French nukes on Polish soil or French tech transfer/help in creating a Polish nuke force.
France hasn't ever been keen on externally deployed nukes, and the whole NP issue means they cannot help Poland.
I expect Ukraine and Poland would be partners for Nuclear - as Ukraine has the know how.

I'd be more betting on France, Poland, Ukraine...
French get top billing rights, and two very feisty nations with them.
Unless Germany does a U turn at the next election, France is going to divorce them, as the Germans are all bark, but only have dentures.
The Germans are all 'Bavarians', with no 'Prussians' left.

Meanwhile, interesting line - whatcha going to do about it?
"Consensus" is vastly overrated. 'Perfection is the enemy of good enough' Instead how about supermajority -dau the 80% solution. At worst, 90% agreement should be the cap, not 100% (so NATO would only need 29/32)

The real test will be what versions if ATACMS the US/NATO delivers. The leaks and announcements could well be (finally) an info-op and deliberate ploy to isolate the US from any blame should Ukraine just 'happen' to decide to ignore/reprogram any geofencing and go max range.

A Ukrainian-British Alliance would be even more interesting….

A Boris Johnson UK or a Keir Starmer UK?

Keir is soft, a Europhile and a remainer. He is a socialist and an internationalist and tightly bound to France and the dirigistes of the EU.

Boris is, for good or ill, a man of passions who trusts his guts.

Boris's UK backed JEF, the Scandinavians, the Dutch, the Balts, the Poles, the Ukrainians, the Czechs and Slovaks. He covered Sweden and Finland with the UK's nuclear force until they were covered by NATO. He prized the ability to act independently.

Starmer, like Sunak, and unlike Truss, is a man of the collective, of the consensus. He relishes the cover of the mob. He is the Gray Man.

He will break for France and Brussels if there is an East West, New Old split.

Johnson would have broken for the East and the Scandinavians.

If Starmer is replaced God alone knows how the Brits would act.

Hell European nations are still buying Russian gas. Gas and oil needs just don't magically go away, so deals with the devil, particularly if you already have a high debt ratio and the price is good.

Canada can help that problem go away. Churchill, Moosonee, Kitimat, Rupert.

We, the west, BADLY and immediately, need to redefine what constitutes 'war".

Interesting conclusion, we are not in WW3 but WW4. Although that blurs the distinction between the end of WW2 and the start of the Cold War (WW3)

Another construct could be that WW2 lasted from 1939 to 1989 when the wall fell and Germany united.

The Germans are all 'Bavarians', with no 'Prussians' left.

Peculiarly there is a strong Prussian element to the Swedish psyche. The Danes and Norwegians tend more to the piratical. I don't have much of a sense of the Finns. The Scandinavians seemed to see them as The Other.

Culture matters

The French Connection

France, Bavaria, Austria, Poland, Rome and Catholic. Add Spain and central Italy. A lot of Bourbon legacy there.

The Hansa

The Baltic and North Sea nations. Free traders and National Catholics (Lutherans and other Episcopalians).

Agree for the most part, except for the Poles, they may take 'The Host', but they fight/act like the Prussians/Hansa. A case of live surrounded by Protestant/Orthodox Heretics and you must adapt to fight/act like them.
