The 50’s RCAF

They sure got dress up in their best for the NFB!

The Ready Room was something else, did you see that Wing Commander's rack? And it was a little cringey to see those high testosterone lads hooting at the sister.

I once worked with an older female Sergeant in the early '80s who had been an Air Weapons Controller in the RCAF (original version) before she remustered to Med A (actually Nursing Assistant - at one time men were Med A, women were Nurs A). The reason why she changed trades came up when she noticed a book I was reading. It had been written by an old time RCAF pilot and it was about his time during WW2 and post war. She recognized his name and remarked that she had worked with for him when she had been an air controller. She wasn't very complimentary about him or the other officers who worked in the control room (a lot of them were pilots - leftovers from the war or new types doing a ground tour). She said that the main reason for her remuster was she was tired of having her T&A grabbed at work.
