We regret to advise of the death of Sergeant Leonard John Edison, CD (Ret’d), peacefully at the Health Science Centre in St John’s NL on Monday, 12 June 2023, at age 73 years after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in St John's NL, Len attended Holy Cross School in the city. His military career spanned over 42 years of service that started when he joined the 56th Field Squadron in 1966. Len’s military career was primarily with the 56th Engineer Squadron (later 37 Combat Engineer Regiment), but he also had posting to Militia District Headquarters in St John's. Len participated in many projects undertaken by the 56th Field Squadron on the island and in Labrador, including bridge constructions at Cartwright and Rennies River. He also deployed to Canadian Forces Station Alert and to Eureka NU. In addition to his service to the Canadian Forces, Len was an avid donor at the Canadian Blood Services, with over 300 donations.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors at Caul’s Funeral Home {84 LeMarchant Road} on Friday, 16 June, from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Funeral will take place on Saturday, 17 June, from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist at 11 a.m. Flowers gratefully accepted, or donations in his memory may be made to the Bursary Program at St. Bonaventure College. Online condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
