Hello...just looking for some information on the path to "Sar Tech"  Is it now direct entry ?  Do you go through basic and then do the entrance testing ?  If you pass do u continue...or do they reserve the right to place you else where ?  Is the civillian medical back ground of any advantage ?  ACP-F, current level of training.  I did look on the recruit web site but its not clear on all of these questions.  Thanks.

It may be direct entry, but not right now as they are only processing 8 high priority trades until at least April.

It is also very difficult to qualify for.

You MUST be a qualified paramedic AND have at least one other SAR-related qualification (diving, mountaineering, sky-diving etc) in order to qualify to apply. If you meet these qualifications, then you may proceed to the CFAT, medical and interview, same as any other applicant.

Currently, Advanced care flight paramedic..with ten years ems experience.  I am hoping this might be a usefull credential.  What are useful backgrounds / qualifications outside of mountaineering and scuba diving ?  What is recognized as experience...just experience or particular courses and credentials...if so wich ones are seen as creditable ?  Thanks for the  help :)

There is a long thread in the Aircrew Trades section of the site about SAR Tech. Plenty of information in there but be careful as you read it since the thread dates from 2001 to present, so some of the information regarding recruiting will be out of date.

Thread is here: http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/199.0
