Hi,
I wonder if someone could help me? I have researched the CF website and have reviewed the Reserve units website of which I am interested in joining, but still cannot find the answer to my question.
I am a former member of the British Army with 8 years of service with a solid infantry background (6 years in the Parachute Regiment). I am a keen marathon runner and keep myself in good shape, so... I am hoping of possible recruitment into the Canadaian Army reserve but, the only thing I would like to know before I walk into the recruitment office is:
1.As a landed immigrant, do I still need a citizenship waiver to join. I have been reading conflicting information regarding this, some reserve websites say 'you require a citizenship waiver; others say you can join as a landed immigrant. Could anyone please confirm this.
2. I am interested in joining an Infantry Regiment within the CF, however with my past background, do you think they may still want me to go and participate in basic training?
3. Do reserve units typically meet on Thursday evenings? If so, what are the timings? How often do they train at weekends? How often do they train during the summer.
4. If I join, is there only certain times of the year you can go and do basic training? If there is... then what do you do in the mean time. When are the periods of basic training? What is the duration and how much do you get paid.
5. How does the pay work out in the reserve? I read the payscales on the CF webpage but, they are very vague.
If someone could answer these questions I would really appreciate it. I am very keen to get the ball rolling!
Thank you for your time. great website by the way! You should check out the British Army's equivalent, pretty good. www.arrse.co.uk
Cheers!
