Political impacts of Ukraine war

Setting aside, specifically, Trump, Russia waving their rare earths around sounds like a perfect reason to keep hammering them in Ukraine. If they're making noises about cooperative ventures now, they'll be even more willing after (hypothetically) getting knocked around in the spring.

Can't see the Assault Lada and Mule Rifle regiments making significant gains.

This is (below) along the lines of what I've posted last week - What if Trump is angling to bring Russia directly into the US economic fold, related to his comments of 'Canada has nothing that we need' statements.

Institute of War -

Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed to Kremlin journalist Pavel Zarubin on February 24 that Russia has an "order of magnitude" more rare earth materials than Ukraine and stated that Russia can cooperate with both the US government and US companies in capital investment projects for rare earth materials.[4] Putin referred to mineral reserves both within Russia and within occupied Ukraine in his attempts to appeal to the United States to invest in "Russian" rare earth minerals (claiming minerals in occupied Ukraine as Russia's own). Putin also offered to conclude deals with the United States on the supply of Russian aluminum. CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and newly appointed Special Presidential Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries Kirill Dmitriev told CNN on February 24 that Russia is open to economic cooperation with the United States, that the first stage of cooperation would be in the energy sphere, and that such cooperation is key for a "more resilient global economy."

Our Federal Government should be VERY concerned about this chatter. Russia can supply many many things to the US cheaper than we here in Canada can. Trump is ALL about getting 'the best deal' for the US and getting these raw resources cheaper for the US and drawing Russian in, towards the US and away from China is a 'win' for the US.
Buying cheap resources from Russia worked so well for the Europeans

I am sure sanctions are about to be lifted very soon by Governor Krasnov of Amerika Oblast.

Trump admires the oligarch utopia that Putin established in Russia. He is pro-authoritarian, and he has brought the US into alliance with Russia. That is why he is waging economic war against democracies. That is why he will not just drop sanctions but initiate preferential trade with Russia.

Can the Ukrainians push back Russia to the border without foreign boots on the ground, relying on aid and equipment alone?
Can they do it before they run out of manpower?

There are ways where this is a plausible outcome, but other things need to happen first.

The US and Russia are nowhere near being allies. I doubt they'll be sharing defence commitments anytime soon.

Be ready for lean times gents. This will be a tough one. With some hard work, unity and a little luck, we can withstand the American menace and emerge stronger.

No, an alliance generally entails mutual benefit and some degree of reciprocity founded on a certain amount of good will. I don’t think any of us truly have a bead on what’s going on here between Trump and Putin, but it doesn’t smell right at all.

Did he just threaten to depose a foreign leader ?
He’ll say nothing so direct. I would not be surprised if Zelenskyy is now in much more personal physical danger from Russia than he was a week ago.
