Political impacts of Ukraine war

For the purposes of this forum I’m happy to be the contrarian. An echo chamber is no fun at all.

Glad to have some additional views. I think this forum is full of opposing views, and is mostly civilized.

You're a frequent poster here, it seems the majority of your posts are pro-Trump and you're sort of the pro-Trump voice in a lot of these threads.

My question was not meant to cause controversy, I am just genuinely curious how pro-Trump you remain after everything that has happened.

If you're the type who cheers on everything Trump does and says, it's fine, but let's just clear the air, as generally unless I missed something you seem to imply you're 100% Team Trump with your posts. Is that the case or do you remain open to the fact that maybe some of the things he's doing aren't such great ideas?

Feel free not to reply, but this is a political thread and I think it's a fair question.

I can't think of any person in any position that I have ever had 100% agreement with. When it comes to Trump, I try to understand how and why they got there first.

The majority of posts are anti-Trump. I've read through a fare share of posts that quote a position or information that through analysis beyond the media or political opponent narrative are either not true, misrepresented, or incomplete.

Consider that for the first 72 years of Trump's life he was largely considered an American icon, a successful businessman, a celebrity. His first term had some successes and some failures, but was not a world ending event. I have seen no evidence he is a fascist that intends to harm American or the world - to comment on the most extreme criticism that media and his detractors have pushed.

There are very few who could argue the current state of affairs in the US (deficits etc) and the world (wars ect) are fine and can carry on indefinitely. The status quo isn't working. His wrecking ball approach to governing in the current climate is unorthodox and not status quo. The results of that will be debated a long time after he passes on.

Looks like the Trump administration's halt on intelligence sharing with Ukraine is extending to private satellite imagery companies:

I have a solution:

Send a bunch of staff officers from NDHQ. And the military bands.

I suspect Musk threatened them with no more launches.

So sad he had another rocket blow up yesterday…

This is a (further) pretty bad way to advertise the reliability of your defense industry if it hinges on who happens to be President and what they had for breakfast that day, and this after making Russian stuff look like glorified crematoriums. The EU and South Korean companies may be eating very well for the next couple decades.

As nice as Google products - Google maps and Google Earth are...

Sentinal Hub Playground /Copernicus Browser have them beat in so many ways that they've become a key tool for our work. Copernicus Browser

Great tool for "good enough but timely" information vs. super high detail stuff (1m pixel or smaller) needed for detailed analysis.

A provocative title, but the five steps taken by the US to undermine Ukraine are undeniable.

Yeah it is sad.

IIRC some in weapons factories in countries occupied by the Nazis would deliberately sabotage weapons...
I remember a documentary about the slave labourers used in constructing the V2 and how they would pee on the electronics in hopes of sabotaging the rockets.

Part 2

Almost all of that advance actually happened almost four days ago—then it has stopped. This is actually the story of the war this last 14 months. The Russians make a small advance, people seem to lose their heads talking about the Ukrainians about to be surrounded and collapse, and then the advance peters out.

What seems to be happening is that in preparation for Trump and Putin trying to force a bad cease-fire deal on Ukraine, Russia is throwing everything it can to try and retake as much of the Kursk salient as possible. The more the Ukrainians hold of Russia, the worse it is for Putin. He also now understands that Trump has his back—so he can basically throw the kitchen sink at Kursk to try and take what he can.

One will imagine such attacks continuing.
For massive cost in this area (the Donbas), the Russians have barely moved the line. This decreasing advance is the military story that is more important.

Its also the great tragedy of the USA switching sides and becoming an ally of Putin. Ukraine was actually inflicting unsustainably high casualties on the Russians. If Europe had stepped up and US aid simply continued as under Biden (particularly with intelligence), the Russians would have had a hard time sustaining the fight by the end of 2025.

Now Putin can wage war knowing he has the USA on his side. Europe must respond or it will fail.
