There was a post here and it was interesting and it went off a new lead about cameras and equipment. I thought since a lot of you very  informed about just about everything , maybe some one here would know more than i do about my  camera. I am old school Nikon F  801 ( American Nikon model 8008) and before that the first nikon FM models.
Anyways after buying my  last new camera the F801 in the early 90s, I took the plunge and got a D60 last winter.
It came with the 18-55MM VR Zoom . Also purchased a 55 to 200 zoom.
I am now looking for a wide angle lense to use. I have never purchased a straight wide angle lense before.
I usually shoot locomotives and train related items. I am not really in to people photography, unless it is snap shots of family kids.
So anyone here have any  hints as to what  to get in the way  of a wide angle?
How well will my  SB-24 flash work with my  D60  or do i have to get a new flash?
I am not very  educated on digitals first one , will be upgrading to another nikon ina  year or so.
thanks in advance guys and girls
Stuart

if you want to have some fun shooting locomotives i recommend getting a nice fisheye lens but they're a bit pricey for a good model. As for knowing anything about your camera i do not, im getting a canon rebel T.1

There's a guy named Stan Trzoniec who not only writes camera and gear reviews but is also into shooting anything to do with railways.
It might be worth your while to look him up on the internet.
Here's one article (albeit an older one -2004) that came up when I googled his name. It deals with wide angle lenses for Nikons.

If and when you get something, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on it (I'm a Nikon shooter myself).

I recommend DPreview.com for information on your camera and accessories.  I will put up a few other websites that I have bookmarked at work once I get there tomorrow.

I use a D90 with the SB600 flash.  It works well.  My main lens is the 18-200 f3.5 but it all depends on your budget.  Do you want "fast" lenses or inexpensive?  I have access to the Nikon government price list if you are military. There is a $1000 12-24 available, but it depends on how close you approach the trains.

Do you have a link to examples of some of your preferred type of shots?

You'll get a lot of vignetting with a flash and wide angle lens.  That said, Tonika makes darn good wide angles for Canon and Nikon.

I'm an Alpha shooter myself, and already own all the fast glass.  Looking to buy a wide angle as well, and have my eye on the Sigma 10-20 or Tamron 10-24.

Here is a great link with 50 sites: http://photocritic.org/top-50-photo-websites/

I have a Panasonic FZ-50 and I too dabble in photography.  While I'm not able to assist with your specific questions, as they pertain to your particular SLR, I thought I would share some information which might be of interest to you.

You didn't mention if you had any filters or not.  A polarizer filter and UV Haze filter are good to have.  Both of which, usually speaking, seem to have taken up a permanent residence at the end of my camera lens.

Most or all of your questions about your camera and equipment for your camera could be answered on this website: http://www.dpreview.com/ .  There is a forum which has some knowledgeable photographers.  Here is the forum link: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/ .

Also, if you are looking for a site to show case your work, this is a pretty good site: http://www.smugmug.com/ .  This site is also great for getting some inspirational photography ideas; many of the photographers post detailed information (including settings) about how they were able to get X shot.  Though I don't recall if this site has a forum or not, you should be able to network with some photographers on this site as well.

I would like to see some of your photo's of trains.  My dad, now passed away, was a train engineer from age 18 right up to when he died.  Seemed that, throughout my childhood, when I wasn't on an old CF converted plane with my grandfather (CF aircraft being my first love right to date) I was on a train with my dad or on a boat with my mom... come to think of it, I did spend a lot time with my feet else where other than on the ground... I'm still that way; always seem to want to have my feet in the air as much as possible.  If you don't mind sharing some of your work, it would be nice to see some of the trains you have photographed.

I wonder if there is a photography thread in Radio Chatter for members to post their work of non-CF photos???

i have the various filters i like and need
i am just interested in what other nikon dslr users are using.
here is a link to  my  pictures of trains, some are taken by  the gf

Some neat shots.  Thank you for sharing.  It was nice to see your photos... I haven't been in any train yards for ages, brought back some good memories for me.
