Hey Rick,
(Thanks).
I think we're just taking the context of his post differently. I can't really see a JTF Assaulter getting upset over someone signing off future JTF member on army.ca. I don't think it's indicative of a poor attitude or anything. We've all seen young posters write "I'm going to be a sniper etc.." and members just destroy them over it. Of course on the other hand it doesn't hurt keeping people grounded either. I'm sure you must pull your hair out when you go over a ton of bio's with young recruits talking about the JTF like it's the end all be all of the CF.
I'm usually the guy suggesting they gear down and get a feel for things before their JTF tunnel vision kills their possible career.
It's interesting though a few years ago a (relatively green unless I'm mistaken) reservist was asking about the US special forces. He got some direction, applied, got accepted, did the training and is now a comms specialist with the US Special Forces.
Re: the recruiting posters, you gotta admit they look pretty bad ass. That's the kinda stuff we need to get young Canadians to join the CF. Mechanics tearing the guts out of LAVs, weapons techs playing with 105mm cannons, clerks throwing darts on a board with names to see who's claims get filed and who's doesn't ;D
I think the posters are a great way to get the kiddies through the door. Like you said though it's frustrating when hey have JTF blinders on heh. Rest of the CF needs those kinda recruiting tools, maybe then recruits would show that kinda enthusiasm about other trades maybe?
