Hi,

I took time to check out that website and found some very good information and I think I might want to speak a a Recruiter! How do I go about doing that? By the way pass my kudos to the guy behind the creation of the website, posters and all...

Thanks.

Future JTF2 member!

1)  Hope yer already a member of the CF (Reg or Reserve), Yager.

2)  Check here (it's on the site):

Yager, a future JTF2 assaulter or support (category B) member? Sure.

I'll bet thats what the other 95% who did not make it in said as well.

Hey Armyrick,

Already called the 1-800 number and they already returned my call, my paper work in already started.

Thanks for the positive feedback :)

Have a good smiley day.

The site seemed to emphasize recruiting more then in the past, are they hurting for people even worse these days? I know they seek people every year so maybe its nothing. I can't see there being a shortage of applicants...

Unless things have changed you need(ed) to be in the CF for at least 3 years in another trade if my memory serves me correct.  popn perhaps there are plenty of applicants but they don't meet the standard.

Found this on the site and thought it might help. :)

The SOA category is open to Regular and Reserve Force volunteers of both genders belonging to any MOS and may range in rank from Pte/AB to Sgt/PO2, and Lt/SLt to Capt/Lt(N). Regular Force personnel must be MOS qualified and have a minimum of two (2) years of service. Reservists must be MOS qualified, have a minimum of three (3) years service, and be prepared to complete a component transfer to the Reg F and commit to an initial four (4) year period of service on completion of the Special Operations Assaulter Course (SOAC). Reserve Force officers must be fully MOS qualified to Reg F standards and are required to forward a resume and a copy of their Primary Reserve Record Resume (PRRR) to the JTF 2 Recruiting NCO prior to applying for a SOA position in order to screen for eligibility. All applicants require a minimum medical category of 322225

Well for the record just timed my 2.4km for the first time since winter, and still well below 9 minutes. Too bad thats still weak by hill standards. Guess I won't be applying any time soon, but hats off to those that do!  :salute:

You should try the JTF2 physical fitness test at your local PSP gym and see how much you score before saying it's not for you.

I might try out for CSOR in the future, any words of encouragement for me Rick? It seems to be your thing  ;)

Physical fitness is one thing, but I'm suspecting it's not the hardest part of the tests.  I'm not gonna apply anytime soon (ha!) so I'll shut up and get back in my lane...

Not trying to be a dick or nothing, I am simply trying to be a realist.

There is confidence and then there is cockyness. Yager, you as of yet have still not filled in your profile. Do you have any idea of how many autobiographies I read of young soldiers on DP1 infantry training who said they were heading to JTF2? Too many. Some of them never even made it through to a battalion.

Putting Future JTF member on the bottom of your post smacks of cockiness and is a far cry different than saying I am going to give it a go. Don't like what I have to say? Too bad.

I am trying to put you down? No. However I do have friends who do work at Dwyer Hill in an assaulter capacity and I don't think they would be too impressed about seeing remarks like that. They are looking for proffessionals not rambos. If you got swooned over by some cool looking posters of JTF2 assaulters and snipers, then I question your background. If your on civie street, they will refer you to a local recruiting center and have a good go on a normal military career first.

Remember their motto is "Deeds not words" and putting a smart *** remark like Future JTF member doesn't quite fall in line with that motto.

For Flawed Design, after reading your profile and seeing your expirience, I wish you good luck and hopefully your ready physically and mentally, give 'er!

Hey Rick,

(Thanks).
I think we're just taking the context of his post differently. I can't really see a JTF Assaulter getting upset over someone signing off future JTF member on army.ca.  I don't think it's indicative of a poor attitude or anything. We've all seen young posters write "I'm going to be a sniper etc.." and members just destroy them over it.  Of course on the other hand it doesn't hurt keeping people grounded either. I'm sure you must pull your hair out when you go over a ton of bio's with young recruits talking about the JTF like it's the end all be all of the CF.

I'm usually the guy suggesting they gear down and get a feel for things before their JTF tunnel vision kills their possible career.
It's interesting though a few years ago a (relatively green unless I'm mistaken) reservist was asking about the US special forces. He got some direction, applied, got accepted, did the training and is now a comms specialist with the US Special Forces.

Re: the recruiting posters, you gotta admit they look pretty bad ass. That's the kinda stuff we need to get young Canadians to join the CF.  Mechanics tearing the guts out of LAVs, weapons techs playing with 105mm cannons, clerks throwing darts on a board with names to see who's claims get filed and who's doesn't  ;D

I think the posters are a great way to get the kiddies through the door. Like you said though it's frustrating when hey have JTF blinders on heh.  Rest of the CF needs those kinda recruiting tools, maybe then recruits would show that kinda enthusiasm about other trades maybe?

I sort of agree.  Especially because it struck me that the person was on civvie street, although in that case it's probably just an innocent remark.  I suppose it's all in how you read the post... personally I thought the remark about having already called the 1-800 number struck me as being a bit of a 'haha told you so'

but then, I haven't posted anything in months, so who cares?

side note, I really agree with Flawed's POV on the posters, and I'd like to add that the TV commercials are pretty great too - I think they're really good recruiting tools.

The kid is just enthused. He'll figure everything out, once he enters the system. No biggie.

Agreed. How many infanteer's you know that go in and not want to be recce sniper pathfinder airborne rangers.. everyone has their dreams.
Somewhere between BMQ/SQ/DP1 most wake up, while others continue on and might actually pursue it.
Hell, I'm sure more than a few of the SOA's had their goals set from Day 1. If you're not dead set on a goal like that, you will probably never achieve it.
