I'm writing a paper on urban warfare, examining three case studies: Stalingrad, Grozny, and Fallujah. I've found some material on all three, but Grozny and Fallujah have been the hardest to find reputable material on.

If anyone has or knows the location (online) of any articles, after-action reports, etc. from reputable sources (journals (academic or military), institutions, etc.), I'd be eternally grateful for the information. Of the two, Fallujah seems the hardest to get any firm data on because everything seems to be from anonymous sources or academically illegitimate sources. I have material from an interview I conducted with a Marine scout-sniper that saw action in Fallujah but aside from that, I don't have much. I've scoured the Rand Corporation's website, so I have just about everything available there.

Any information you can think of (preferably available online - my book-buying budget is low and Montreal libraries are short on military literature) for any of the three cases (Stalingrad, Grozny, and Fallujah) would be greatly appreciated.

I was going to send you to RAND but I see you have been there already...

How much time do you have?

I have about 2 weeks, though I'd like to start writing the paper sooner than that. Calvin put me onto some great articles on Fallujah, but I can use as many as I can get.

Re: Grozny...

The Battle of Grozny: Deadly Classroom for Urban Combat  - TL Thomas - amazingly actually availible online for free.
http://www.carlisle.army.mil/usawc/parameters/99summer/thomas.htm

As well by TL Thomas, Grozny 2000: Urban Combat Lessons Learned, in Military Review, 2000, vol 80, no. 4.

Russian Lessons Learned From the Battles For Grozny - http://fmso.leavenworth.army.mil/documents/Rusn_leslrn.htm - Tl Thomas once again involved with a bunch of others...

There are more, and a couple books, but they are not availible online. A great place to look is actually the new google scholar beta. You pull up a lot of useless garbage, but if you're at wits end as for as finding sources go, it's not bad and it does actually do journals, you just need to have a way to access them.

If you don't have access to Military Review.... *cough*... I am sure I can find a way to have you properly access this material in line with all existing laws and regulations.... PM me if you like.

Do you have access to any University Libraries?
You might find additional scholarly books/reports/papers there.
PM me if you can't, I might be able to help

I think I have an article called the fight for Fallujah somewhere around here. I'll try to find it and tell you what journal it came from (I think it was the US Field Arty Journal).

Yep, it's a FA Journal article called "The Fight For Fallujah".  It's artillery-specific, but may have some interesting info.

Here's a link

Here is the link to the Combat Studies Institute at Ft Leavenworth. You will probably find something on all three operations. I don't have time to do any searching, good luck on your paper.  :salute:

This should get you started anyway

Thanks to all for your help - thanks to the links and suggestions, I've accumulated about 10-15 more sources on Fallujah and Grozny, which are the two that I was hurting for.

With what I now have, I'm ready to write the paper over the next few days/week. I'll post a copy on Army.ca for your perusal/feedback.
