Naval High Collar White Tunic

The USN tunics aren't exactly the same but they're cheaper than getting the ones made.  You'll just need to get USN pants, which no one will notice.  As I said, buttons and flashes are super easy to get.

Really?  I have always worn my US tunic with my CF pants...never had an issue and I don't appear different than anyone else.  Perhaps everyone is wearing US tunics and CF pants

Luke007 - YES, get a US one if you can.  750 bucks from Andrie is highway robbery.  not sure what a US one costs these days, but I bought mine for 80 bucks US back in the day.  Whatever, it will be cheaper than 750 bucks once all the alterations and Canadianization is done.

Putting the USN pattern and Andrei-made tunics side-by-side it's hard to tell the difference - only ones I noticed are the neck closure (USN uses velcro, vice a metal hook from Andrei), and the chest pockets (USN are angled, vice the Andrei ones are curved, just like the CA DEU tunic). (see photos)

Although the fabric blends are different, I thought they look the same at any reasonable distance; never heard of anyone with a USN tunic getting USN pants just to match. I think comparing any white clothing even of the exact same fabric blend there's always going to be some subtle differences in shade/tone just from regular wear and imperfect washing.

Whether USN or Andrei, either is a useful alternative to the black tunic on a hot summer day.

It's being sold at $179,99 (http://www.uniforms-4u.com/p-customizable-us-navy-service-dress-white-military-uniform-5291.aspx).

Thank you Vincent.  This is quite informative!

That is a different number...

Hello, any news about the Naval High Collar White Tunic making its way on Logistic Unicorp? For those who have recently gotten one, did you order it from US, where?, or did you get it made in Canada? Thanks.

I think it's the same order of dress as mess kit, so won't see it on Logistics. Everyone I know that has them bought them at the American PX during a port visit and had it tailored.

THey are a weird one were very few people actually have it.

There was formal discussion in the past few(-ish?) years about making it a proper order of dress (I.e., publicly-funded and available via Logistik). I can't be bothered to look up old RCN Dress Committee minutes, bit am quite sure it was discussed at least a couple times in the last five years.

I feel like it's been quietly cancelled, but have no inside info on this. As someone who's owned a HCW tunic for the past number of years, there's been no real opportunities to wear it. Notably, it's never a dress option at RIMPAC, and even the USN Flag Officers there show up to formal events in white trousers plus normal 3B-equivalent short-sleeve shirts.

I hope they pretty much shitcan everything flair related for officers until further notice. Sure, it can be for everyone, but lets be honest it would mostly be the weirdroom.

HCW are weird generally; if it's hot enough to be in tropical dress, just wear whites (and then enjoy your feet being destroyed while being a bit cooler in short sleeves).

Hello, those who have had their tunic shipped from US to Canada did you end up paying customs?

I had mine made at British Tailors in Victoria way back in the day. I’ve worn them quite a bit especially at summer events.

To each their own I guess; I'm probably biased as I'm not a fan of the normal white dress (the shoes in particular), especially after having my feet wrecked walking around NY in them.

The CAF-issued oxfords (black or white) are crap. I found that putting in insoles (Superfeet are my favourite but there are others) helps a lot, but my feet hurt after a day walking around in them regardless.

Yeah, I bought a pair of swats for the black oxfords, but the white ones ripped apart my heels and the sides of my feet as well as rubbing off bits of my toes, so insoles wouldn't have helped. I don't know why they are particularly bad as they should be the same fit but there were a lot of destroyed feet both times I went

I bought a pair of Black Johnston & Murphy Oxfords (Melton I believe) at a Naval Exchange in the US nearly a decade ago. They are far, far more comfortable than the issued rubbish, polish up very easily and blend. They also work well with black suits on civvie side.

There is better out there.

An NCM in the NCR wants to get married next summer in Whites. He wants to get the USN tunic but he needs buttons. He can get the 36-ligne RCN buttons easily from Logistik. However, how does he find the 26-ligne buttons for the pockets?

Great question... I looked at the dress manual and it mentions No. 1C and D orders of dress, but doesn't really offer specifics. I'm thinking about buying a jacket, so I'm also curious about this.
