Kinda hwy lagged here, so I'll say the layman's answer.
Having been in your predicament once before...and in a few months will be again
, the answer "yes". We are entitled. As long as it's 180 or more, you're good to go, and actually you may not even have to wait till it's anywhere NEAR complete...though mine was...and actually is again 2nd time around.
You also have 1 yr from your birth date to claim it. Not sure if you have to REMAIN on class B to claim it or not though, if you find out let us know.
Basically, you end up having to go to your local EI office, registering. Then you start receiving your EI cheques/deposits. The military then calculates what your top-up is....to 93%.
Keep in mind what the military does its calculate how much money you made in the previous 365days from the day you start your leave, and divide that by 365. That gives them how much your daily (and ensuingly weekly) pay. Then your entitlement is adjusted.
EX A: You worked ONLY 6months the previous year making 100/day. You're entitelement will be $50/day or 250/week. EI will give you whatever 1/2 of that is 175, and the military will top-up to the remaining 93%.
EX B: You worked 365 days from the date of commencing mata/pata. Entitlement is then 100/day or 500/wk. Therefore EI will give you 1/2 == 250, and Military will top up remaining 93%.
I was truly mind-blown when I learned of this MOST generous benefit.
Enjoy your time, and keep up your PT!!!
