I am wondering if there is a Canadian equivelant to Operation Iraqi Children http://www.operationiraqichildren.org/ set up in Afghanistan?  I would like to get the kids from my school (I teach at a K - 12 school) contributing something to students in Afghanistan.
Just read about it on Micheal Yon's site and it looks like an excellent program.

UberCree,

Our CIMIC folks used funds raised by the humanitarian committee to fix up local schools, etc but I don't believe it was as formal as OIC.  I was involved personally with Sarika House and the "share the spark" program by providing funds raised by ladies in my neighbourhood.  Unfortunately with so many CF members leaving Kabul, you may want something in Kandahar to focus your kids towards.

Try going through 2 PPCLI in Wpg (they have a company deployed) in order to get a "contact on the ground".  They should have a company AO that you can focus your efforts on.

Cheers

Dangerboy you are entirely correct.  Can I blame it on too many beers consumed during a frustrating Super Bowl game?

I would suggest contacting LFWA CIMIC for donations to the Kandahar area. If it's Kabul you want then I'm your man (for the next 3 weeks).

If you're looking at donating materials I would suggest school supplies, simple boxes of notebooks and pencils make a world of difference to these kids.

Excellent.  PM inbound.

Yes there is.  The organization is called "Give Children A Chance."  While it was started by an American soldier, SFC Jarrod Gozy, he has been working with the Canadians at the PRT to distribute school supplies to children at 14 schools in Kandahar (and counting) since the start of Roto 0.  I happen to know he is also in the process of registering for charitable organization status in Canada as well as the U.S.

Humanitarian Aid is not permitted to be sent through the CF Postal System so this is one way Canadians can contribute to our efforts here to win the trust and confidence of the local population.

Anyone who is reading this, please pass the work about GCAC to everyone you know, and if you have any questions feel free to PM me.  The website's link is:

Cheers!
