Haven't heard anymore on this since the memo a few months ago from Gen Hillier. Did it come to a sudden stop, is it only given if required for the position you are filling ? Any info, just curious.

Im at CFLS Det St Jean right now and hte big rumours running around are that we will be the last group of 2lt's to run the 33 week french program before being fully qualified. Its stupid really because you profile expires in 5 years and you need french to become a senior officer so that just means you need to come back all over again.

Anyways hope this helps.

Mod didn't really edit...just hit wrong button!!  :-\

It doesn't mean you have to come back to St Jean all over again. It means you have to have your profile re-evaluated before the expiration of your 5 year limit. Then your profile is then validated for another 5 year period from that date.

Make it your business not to lose your second language capabilities in this 5 years (or ever) and you'll do just fine. Want to make Snr Officer, then make sure you use that French that the taxpayer has dished out the dough for you to learn, even while you are posted to an English speaking Unit. There are plenty of Franco or French speaking personnel at every base. If you've learnt it; use it. Then you've got no worries and no one to blame but yourself if you do lose it.

Mon français est beau. Le maintenir cependant, vous serez beau ! !

Mais, je parle une petit peu de français.

Or is that:

Mais je parle un tant soit peu de français?
