Apropos, my youngest (6 years old) is currently on his third hamburger, (and fourth pasta helping) while we are on vacation in Croatia. His two eldest brothers consumed 7 burgers between them.( and pasta galore)

I have a daughter. The moment that my 9erD considers a horse/riding lessons (she is very frugal) is the moment I run away, with absolutely no regrets. True dat.

We had four (well, sort of, two were miniatures). When they bought the first one, I figured they are relatively inexpensive to buy but expensive to keep, so I bought a new motorcycle (expensive to buy, inexpensive to keep). When they talked about getting another, I did the math with boarding and figured a small farm would be cheaper than 2x boarding.
I loved the lifestyle, but after The Kid left town, we were left babysitting four large pets. Living in the country, I think the bond, training, competing, etc. was good for her.

My favourite part about that listing is the fact it is in a neighbourhood where the average individual incomes is 51k and the average household is 80k. Makes perfect sense to have a 2.8mil home there.
8 here with 5 boys, pfft to you. $500 a week plus a $2000 side of beef a couple times a year. (Last year the side of beef was $1200)

Speaking only from my perspective, houses on my street were going for over a million to 1.3 million. I’m seeing same models in my neighbourhood now priced at just under 1 million but they don’t seem to be moving at all.
Prices might be dropping a a bit but the appetite to buy doesn’t seem to be there. Houses have been on the market for some time as well becoming stale dated.
Time will tell. But even at lowered prices it’s unaffordable for most.

I live in a ghetto in Halifax (Fairview). But its as close to the peninsula as you can get without being on it. Dumps are selling for 6-700K, which is wild for us. We have less than 100K left on our mortgage, I think were silly not to sell now take that profit and turn it into acreage with a house outside the city.

For people who enjoy that sort of thing, reminds me of a Canadian house-porn show on HGTV about ten years ago.
Called "Live here - Buy this".
It was pretty simple.
Real estate agents would tell Toronto, and GTA, home-owners the current market value of their property.
Then, “tantalize” them with what that $ could buy elsewhere.

I shared the link to more illustrate how out of hand the Canadian housing market is. A couple of months ago, we considered moving back to Canada from Ireland. But a standard 3 bedroom detached house in nearly anywhere in southern Ontario was running at least 800k. Here in Dublin, my admittedly small, house is paid off and I did not relish having to take on a mortgage in my 50s. I would rather put the money aside for a retirement spot in the Canary Islands. Unless there is a major correction in the Canadian housing market, I do not foresee myself ever moving back.
The problem here is that prices outside the city aren’t much different. Demand for those properties have gone up significantly with good reason and even moving further out is not as easy as it once was.
