Canadian River Class Destroyer Megathread

I think they are going to have the UK build those for them on the UK T26 standard. They don't need air warfare ships as they have those already.

I also don't see where we would fit them into our build schedule.
Norway has no air warfare vessels within their fleet, Fridtjof Nansen might have SPY-1F and AEGIS but it is limited to only ESSM from it's 8 VLS cells. Whatever will be procured by their Navy will replace the aforementioned class of ASW combatants, and Norway has expressed similar requests as to Canada for the CPSP to basically purchase a vessel abroad off the shelf.

No chance in hell Canada would agree to built Rivers for Norway, we are beyond desperate for these vessels ourselves and there is absolutely no way there is any room for Norway. Even the UK is going to have issues fitting Norway in their schedule, they'll be taking a hit to fulfill their order.

If only we could refit and open up another yard on the East Coast and give fast track Citizenship papers and other incentives to skilled workers from Romania, the UK, Poland, instead of 22yr 'university' students from Southeast Asia.

Maybe change the title of the thread to River Class Destroyer vice CSC?
hoping season 3 GIF

So what rivers are y'all looking at?
Some guesses would be MacKenzie, St Lawrence (alternatively St. Laurent), Fraser, Churchill, Red River, Athabaska, Saskatchewan, Ottawa, Nelson, Columbia and Peace. Something tells me we won't see an HCMS Slave despite the Slave River being one of our largest haha.

By the way, will the naming convention be HMCS XYZ  River or HMCS XYZ?

Ie HMCS MacKenzie or HMCS MacKenzie River?

Close.

Land Based Testing Facility - HMCS Assiniboine (inland river - it rises in East Central Saskatchewan and terminates at the Red River in Winnipeg)
RCD 01 - HMCS Fraser (empties into the Pacific, actually Salish Sea then Pacific)
RCD 02 - HMCS St Laurent (empties into the Atlantic via Gulf of St Lawrence)
RCD 03 - HMCS Mackenzie (empties into the Arctic Ocean)

Nailed it haha. Have they hashed names for the other RCDs yet?

Following the themes of prominent river systems from across Canada while also sticking to perpetuating battle honours as the RCN likes to do, basically take any of the various sub-classes of Cold War steamers and you've got your likely candidates.

Caveats to this, Ottawa might not make the cut as not to confuse it with the Halifax class of the same name. I would also expect Kootenay not to be reused, given her name is being used on the Kootenay Damage Control Training Facility on the East Coast.

No, but a good guess would involve many of the names of the steamers that were still active when I joined the RCN.
So many more than that as well if you go back to WW2 names. If there isn't a Niagara though I'll riot!
