CAN-USA 2025 Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

Looks like they're doing all the things the Torries said they were going to do.

Yup. All that tells me is they are devoid of their own ideas to pacify Canadians and are endorsing PP.

Billboards and commercials saying Carney Endorses Conservatives to Lead Government.
Then list all the things butts and telford have stolen. Everytime they steal a platform point it just shows how weak, insecure and out of touch Carney is.

Liberals doing a U-turn on Bill C-69 that was sacrament just a few months ago.

Me, personally, have little to no faith the liberals will carry through with their promises. There'll excuses and reasons to set them aside, do more research, modify them or just plain ignore them. I don’t trust liberals to tell the truth or do what's right.

The conservatives are no better. Our politicians, all of them, are mealy-mouthed, two-faced, spineless weasels who ultimately fallback onto a shopkeeper-bookkeeper mentality to stay in power.

Did a Costco run today- close to $200 worth of discretionary purchases not made due to US origin or distributors. All stuff I would have liked to grab but can do without easily enough.

It’s a trickle for now, but stories are starting to be told about companies in the U.S. feeling the pinch. Come April 2nd, if Trump doesn’t flinch from his plan, he’s gonna inflict a lot more self-harm on his country.

All the American politicians who blame other nations for America's issue need to look in a mirror. THAT is what the problem with the USA is.

So that was what, passing on a box of granola bars ?

I am glad I don't do the grocery shopping. I have fits just buying ammo and lumber.

Also stories saying Canadian made products are seeing a bump in revenue.

I’m all for it.

So, the main reason that Trump used (and still cites to this day) to get around Congress to slap tariffs on us and we aren't even worth mentioning in the threat assessment. So is it a problem or not?

Anyone who thinks that fentanyl or whatever at our border is the reason for anything is falling for BS. It’s an excuse to declare whatever emergency they need to violate trade agreements to put tariffs in place to push whatever economic theory they think is going to make America great again…

We have a serious organized crime problem in this country, but I’m sure if the Trump Administration was really concerned about it, it would have been trumpeted all over the place. As it were, we only had a former Trump official give a couple quiet interviews before the inauguration, and that’s it. Since the announcement of the tariffs, it’s been hair-on-fire hyperbole based on 42 kg seized in total. But nothing on our real organized crime problems.

It’s all BS.

It’s all BS critically important political posturing.

There, FTFY ;)

American's might end up in a toilet paper shortage, again. Those that mastered the 3 shells method during the pandemic will probably be fine though.

NBSK constitutes about 30% of standard US bathroom tissue and half of a typical paper towel, and is currently sourced primarily from Canada, said Brian McClay, chairman of TTOBMA, which tracks the global pulp market. He added that the US imported about 2 million tons of Canadian NBSK last year, highlighting the longstanding reliance of American paper-goods producers on pulp from their northern neighbor.

“Some of these mills in the United States, some of the big branded products, not only want softwood pulp from Canada, they want softwood pulp from this particular mill — they’ve been using it for 30 years and they will not change,” McClay said.

“If Canadian pulp mills close because they don’t have the fiber supply, I can’t think of any other option for them — they just can’t switch the recipe around,” he said.
