2022 CPC Leadership Discussion: Et tu Redeux

At the end of the episode, Jesse and his guest host (a teacher and Tik Toker Frank Domenic) go on this odd tangent on how conservatives are able to make fun of themselves (ala Jeff Foxworthy). I'm still trying to figure out what they were getting at. Is it a bad thing that conservatives have inside jokes? Are lefties that puritan that they are unable or unwilling to laugh at themselves?
I haven't listened to this episode yet, but given Jesse's general proclivities, I suspect it's the latter. Could be an extension of the "the left can't meme" thing, maybe.

Lefties only make fun of righties. How dare you try to make fun of (pick a left winger)!!! ;)

Put this here instead of in the rail strike thread so the politics involved can be discussed.

Interesting approach on the railway labour situation ....
Snippet from the CP story (as of ~1430E today, anyway)

Canadaland goes over the PP Video.

Also Jesse puts a plea to future Jesse that he is not a person that should be named to the Senate (re: Charles Adler and the unmentioned Mike Duffy)
I wasn’t expecting “lefties” and “puritan” in the same sentence…

The beauty of being in the opposition. You can pick and choose what to attack your opponent on.

Then we get asked if we know Fred from Toronto.
When I get asked from Americans where I'm from and I say SW Manitoba, I get a "Where the heck is that" look. Then I say its just across the border from North Dakota and the look never changes. :ROFLMAO:
Somebody actually pulled that “Fred from Toronto” question on me in Dubai, once. Against about 30,000,000-1 odds, I actually did know the guy…

While I was at Costco today hoarding toilet paper, I saw someone wearing a “uOttawa Proud Father” hoodie. Carleton doesn’t seem to sell those for some reason…
Ya, I wore one from our daughter's university. I figure it was the least I could get for several thousand dollars of my money.

Either PP is an idiot and actually thinks the Nazis were actually "socialist", or he thinks Canadians are idiots and is using ignorance and fear to try and villify the Liberals and NDP. E

The party was indeed the National Socialist German Workers' Party

One view: the Team Blue info machine’s just using the proper name, back in the day, of the party in question.

Another view: the Team Blue info machine is trying to paint all kinds of socialism as authoritarian and/or totalitarian.

Alternative view: They were doing both, just like the other side does when comparing conservative parties with Nazis.

You cherry pick a few things the Nazis and your opponent have in common(military investment, national building projects, social programmes, etc.), and imply that all the bad the Nazi party did is what you opponent will do as well.

Someone should ask PP if “Canada should always stand against socialism”, whether he intends on officially dismantling the Canadian healthcare system which is classically socialist. Even if it’s normally a provincial responsibility, it’s still socialist and Canada should be against it, right?

I’m sure that will totally help the CPC’s chances.

NAZI is short for National Socialist.

Or hell, the many socialist benefits the Public Service and Parliamentarians enjoy that most private citizens will never see.

Life will suck when he needs to start paying market rate for repairs on 24 Sussex...

Yes, however would they fall under the socialist (generally left-wing) side, or the fascist (generally right-wing) side? I would argue that they fell on the right-wing side.

Besides, their official names don’t necessarily align with their policies. The DPRK is the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, but I don’t see much “democracy” there either. If a politician anywhere in the world (well, aside from the DPRK) tried to argue that it’s democratic based on the name, they would be laughed out of the room.

Edit to add: If Canada is against socialism, I fully expect PP to rail against the evil socialist countries of checks notes Norway, Sweden, and Denmark if they form the next govt.

This is the equivalent of some hypothetical group which advocates for autocracy using the Democratic People's Republic of Korea as an example of why democracy doesn't work.
Like in the Cold War days (and today for that matter?), any country whose name had "Democratic" and "People's" in it usually wasn't democratic, and didn't GAF about the people.

And the USSR's constitution had wording in it allowing member republics to leave - riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight ....
