Just a couple quick points...
First to clarify the tool question, personal tools are not allowed for use on CF aircraft for flight safety reasons (FOD hazard). Secondly, regardless of where you may be stationed, the role of the Airforce is to not to provide jobs for people at home in Canada -...
Hmm. Interesting and kinda sad at the same time, since 434 Sqn used to fly the Challengers in a limited MP role, now they're all but gone. They often came back with photographic evidence of illegal activity including overfishing and dumping. Although the maritime environment was hard on the...
I quickly browsed the thread and didn't see any discussion on the H-92 as a new medium lift helo possibility. We're already getting a bunch to replace the SeaThing, so the notion of commonality would tend to point to that as a strong contender for a medium lift helo as well. And I believe it's...
Well, it used to be that way. I just had the new Terms of Service brief, and with respect to voluntary OT's you'll now owe 2 years over and above the time it takes to get qual'd in your new occupation. Scary prospect, so plan your future wisely. Can anyone elaborate more?

You can expect to pay around $600 to $700, including the accoutrements that you'll have to buy separately (cummerbund, bowtie, white shirt, cufflinks, buttons, etc).
Cheers,

Having spent 6 years on the Sea King as an AVN Tech, I can state that a training aid such as that would have been invaluable - system mockups are good, but merely represent the real thing.
As far as who else is supporting these a/c, there's still several countries using the Sea King including...
I'm not completely sure what you mean there, but I've seen our T-33s return from missions early after having "sunk" all the ships or killed all the bird gunners. Can you clarify what you meant?
434 Sqn was another victim of Liberal budget cuts. I spent 3 years with 434 Sqn maintaining the T-33's and Challengers. They could always meet their tasking requests and had high a/c serviceability. The T-33's were very economical to fly, hard to detect on radar and gave all their customers...
Interesting debate so far. Check out the link below for a nice shot of the C27J performing a complete roll at the 2004 Nova Scotia International Airshow in Halifax.

You read my mind. We built many of our now-retired US-desgined fighters (F-86's, CF-104's, CF-5's) and even current aircraft (CH-124) under license in Canada. I think it's still the way to go. I believe we could do this for strategic sealift as well, rather than waiting 20 more years for a...
FoxTwo:
I commend your forward thinking. Keep it up. Here's a different spin for you. I spent 11 years as an Air Reserve AVN tech, all the while going to university and subsequently working full time for a civvy company. The training was very good, since all the courses are Regular Force...
Not far off there SeaKingTacco. I spent 6 years maintaining them and even made a few cross-countries, so I'm a firm believer it is one of the best helos ever built. Sturdy airframe? You betcha. Problematic avionics? Oh yeah, but I've always thought that we could fly this thing for 30...
Hey Scoobs:
About the reason for the 18 month AVN course, you're pretty accurate. Let me just add a little more clarity for other readers. I was a reservist Airframe Tech from 92 to 03, so I was there when the AVN trades were still separate. After the FRP, I had to retrain as an AVN Tech...
